I recently used a Google Sheet to create a quick and easy update for one of my social worker friends to post new jobs. It worked for a week and stopped. It may have stopped when I shared access to him to make updates. I tried to recreate the table and link it per your instructions. It worked for a day and came back with the same error. "wpDataTables was unable to access data. Unauthorized access. Please make file accessible."
None of my other Google Sheets tables have failed yet and I won't touch their Google Sharing just in case. I swear I have followed your sheet linking instructions carefully. It is almost as though Google has changed access.
Thank you for reporting this. Yes, we have multiple users having the issue, and we also reproduced it. Here is what we have found so far :
The demo sheet from our documentation was created a long time ago using an older version of Google Sheets, so we can't reproduce the issue with that sheet.
However, if we create a new Google Sheet now, we can reproduce the issue, and it keeps throwing the following error:
"wpDataTables was unable to access data. Unauthorized access. Please make file accessible."
I am urgently escalating this to our QA team and developers.
We will do our best to isolate the issue and find either a temporary workaround or a fix as quickly as possible.
As soon as we have an update on our end, I will notify you right away.
I am experiencing this same issue since 2 days ago. Is it possible to provide an ETA to have this solved in the next plugin release?
Or something we can do to temporarily have it working?
Why the old sheets are working, and the new ones are not? What changed in the Google for the new documents? And should we not edit the old documents/sheets to avoid making them stop working as well?
I have been able to edit existing sheets. My troubles began when I tried to add others in the Sharing screen. But I am pretty sure you can not at this moment create a new sheet and have it be a WpTables source.
I thought it might be helpful to post my klugey work-around for this problem.
First of all, don't touch the sharing on your Google Sheets that are still working. I can add rows and edit cells and they seem OK. But try to share it with another Google user and you're asking for trouble.
Second, use Excel for now. Download your Google Sheet into Excel then upload the Excel into your WordPress media . Then create a new WpTable from that. Need to edit it? a) Update the Excel instead, b) delete the Excel file you previously imported into your WordPress media, c) reimport the updated Excel (no new columns or header names) into WordPress media using the same filename. When you bring up your Wptable, it'll see the updated version and it will show your new edits.
This workaround is far from ideal but give it a try and report back here if it worked for you too.
Google has recently updated its security policies, affecting how Google Spreadsheets connect to third-party applications.
As a result, existing spreadsheets created before this change will continue to work without issues. However, newly created Google Sheets will encounter connection errors due to these updated security protocols.
For the newly created Google Sheets with wpDataTables, you’ll need to connect your Google API service account in the plugin settings/Google Spreadsheet API settings.
You can find detailed instructions on setting up a Google API service account here.
If you need to use private sheets, refer to this guide.
Once your Google API service account is added to our plugin, you won’t need to repeat this step, and all Google Sheets functionalities will work as before.

Currently experiencing this as well. Most of our tables now shows the error.
I double checked the publishing and sharing options but none have changed. Recreating the table and linking it doesn't work for me as well.
I hope a fix can be done ASAP

We are encountering the same issue; it seems widespread. Is there any update on when this will be resolved?
I am also facing this problem and trying to fix it myself. Please let me know when it is fixed.
