I am using Amelia 8.1 and have come across a problem which I believe is to do with daylight saving time (based on my own thoughts plus comments from Amelia Support in public tickets)
To help you I have documented below in detail what I have done:
- I am in the UK and my WordPress timezone is set up as London
- In Amelia settings I set Show booking slots in client time zone to ON because my clients are global and I want them to see on the front end the event time in their timezone
- The "Event Booked email" includes **%event_start_time%**
TEST1 I created a 1 hour EVENT to start at 4AM on May 5th 2025 Using another computer I made a test booking. This computer is in my house so it was acting as UK based customer. It is set (via Windows Control Panel) to UK Regional settings and UK timezone The email received by the customer shows the Start Time as 3:00AM (i.e. it is 1 hour out)
TEST2 I created an event with a start time of 8PM on 12th March 2025 and made a test booking. The email received by the customer shows the Start Time as 8PM
TEST3 I changed the setting on my testing computer so be USA East Coast timezone. I created 2 more test bookings - one for each event Both emails showed the correct start time
TEST4 I cannot do this test but I would like to know what would happen if I scheduled an event to take place in 1st week of November (our clocks have gone back) and a customer placed the booking on say 25th October when we are still in British Summer Time
SUMMARY OF MY FINDINGS In the UK we have not yet moved to British Summer Time. We do that at the end of March Event1 is scheduled for 5th May and that is in British Summer Time (Daylight Saving)
When the booking date is outside Daylight Saving and the event date is in Daylight Saving the email displays the wrong time
When the booking date is outside Daylight Saving and the event date is also outside Daylight Saving the email displays the correct time
This is not a timezone issue. It is a Daylight Savings issue and only seems to be an issue if the customer is in the same timezone as me
FINAL QUESTION So having spent my time today testing, I'd like to know please is there a way to resolve this?
I’m afraid this issue cannot be resolved at this moment, but I will explain why this is not related to Amelia as such. Amelia follows WordPress settings, and as such, the proper configuration to avoid issues with daylight saving time is to set the timezone to the correct city, which you have already done. However, it's important to understand that these settings are applied based on the most common adjustments in countries worldwide, not individually for each country. In fact, approximately 75% of countries use same adjustments, 15% change their time at the same time as the UK.
As mentioned earlier, Amelia inherits these settings from WordPress, and only a very small number of countries change the time, such as the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. Most countries change the time at the same time. Some countries have even stopped changing the time altogether. Unfortunately, it is not possible to satisfy 100% of the market, so the settings must be adjusted according to the largest market segments.
I hope this clarifies the situation. Thank you for your understanding.
Should you have any further inquiries, we kindly request that you open separate tickets for each question and we will gladly help you there.
We wish you all the best and hope you have a wonderful day ahead.
