Look... I understand that there's a 255 character limit on a cell. However, I tried to bypass that by going into MySQL and changing the max length from 255 to 1024. That didn't work.
I really need more than 255 characters in a cell.
What can I do?
Hi Lana,
Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.
If the column was originally set as a "one-line string" and you need to increase its character limit, there are two ways to do this:
I will guide you through the process of changing the character limit of the column(s) in your database directly—without losing any data.
First, enable editing and check the "MySQL table name for editing" setting.
Then, in phpMyAdmin (or any other database management tool), navigate to your database, locate the table, and click on the "Columns" tab.
Find the column you need to modify, click the "Change" button, and update the type from VARCHAR to TEXT.
The difference is that a column of VARCHAR type (which has a limit of 255 characters) will be changed to TEXT type (which allows up to 65,535 characters).
Once you've made the change, save it, and when you return to the table in our plugin, you'll be able to enter longer text in the cell without restrictions.
2. Alternative Method (for Manual Tables only)Another way to increase the character limit—specifically for Manual wpDataTables—is to delete and recreate the column. When adding it again, set it as a "multi-line string". This ensures that it is stored as TEXT in the database, allowing for the much higher character limit.
Let me know how it goes, and feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance.
Thanks!
Kind Regards,
Miloš Jovanović
