I am experiencing an issue with the Amelia booking plugin. When I change the service for an existing appointment, customers do not receive the "Appointment Details Changed" notification email. Other notifications seem to be working fine.
I would like to know if this is a known bug or if there is an alternative solution to ensure customers are properly notified when their appointment details are modified.
Steps to Reproduce: 1. Book an appointment for a customer. 2. Change the service for the existing appointment. 3. Check if the customer receives an "Appointment Details Changed" email.
Expected Behavior: Customers should receive an email notification informing them of the changes to their appointment details.
Current Behavior: No email is sent when the service is changed.
Please let me know if there is a workaround or if this will be addressed in a future update.
Thanks for reaching out to us. The Appointment Details Changed template is sent when
The assigned employee was changed;
The location changed;
The extras included were changed.
This email is automatically sent if anything related to the details of the appointment has been changed, and if this email notification is enabled. If you change the date and/or the time, the Appointment Rescheduled email template will be sent.
Thank you for your response. However, my initial question regarding the "Appointment Details Changed" notification email when changing a service was not addressed. Based on your explanation, it seems that changing the service does not trigger this email notification.
Could you confirm whether this is intended behaviour or a limitation of the current functionality? Additionally, if the plugin does not support this, would it be possible for a developer to add this functionality through custom coding? If so, could you provide guidance on how this might be achieved?
As per my previous message, the "The Appointment Details Changed" template is sent when
The assigned employee was changed;
The location changed;
The extras included were changed.
However, even if you change the service, the same notification template will be sent
There is no need to have an extra code, you need to make sure that there is a correct email configuration. If you haven't configured the SMTP for email configuration, please kindly do so. You can follow the instructions from this link.
Thank you for your response. I have tested this again, and I noticed that when I change the service, only the assigned employee receives the "Appointment Details Changed" notification email. However, no email is sent to the customer.
Could you confirm if this is the expected behaviour? If not, what steps should I take to ensure that the customer also receives the notification when the service is changed?
No, that's not the expected behavior, since both employees and customers should receive email notifications each time there is a change on their booking, even if you change the service.
Have you configured the correct email configuration? You should be using the SMTP configuration since this is the recommended one (most stable). In case you haven't configured it yet, you can follow the instructions from this link.
Thank you for your response. I am currently using the email service provided by my host (Bluehost) to send emails. Do you recommend switching my email sender to Gmail via SMTP for better reliability?
Since the customer is not receiving the "Appointment Details Changed" email when I change the service, could this be related to the email service I am using? Other notification emails are working fine.
We can certainly recommend the SMTP configuration for sending emails, because using any other configuration such as Mailgun or PHP may result in sending emails as spam. You can use Gmail as host with the SMTP configuration, you just need to configure the SMTP username and password.
