Is there a way to change how data in url and email columns appears when printing (to PDF or paper) the page that contains a datatable with these columns. Here is a screenshot: https://prnt.sc/ChCxKKglhioe
The problem is that if the URL is long, the formatting of the table is completely screwed up because the entire url is shown. I would like to be able to only show the text of the link, not the url. Please let me know if that's possible.
I see what you mean. Yes, this is our current limitation of how the Export Tools are working, when we export links/Emails or images.
As mentioned in the Documentation, if you enable the "Include HTML" option, this will render the full HTML behind a hyperlink, Email or image in the exported CSV, Excel, Print and Copy options - this feature is just not available for PDF.
If you just wish to show the 'displayed text' of a hyperlink, can you try disabling the "include HTML", then it should only export that visible text from the cells with links?
But if you do that - then it won't export the 'underlying URL', so that will not work as a hyperlink after it gets exported, if that makes sense.
At the moment, those are the only two options we have, when it is disabled/ or enabled.
If you wish to see a better solution, you can make a future development suggestion.
to see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there, and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.
You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;
and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.
Thanks Miloš, thanks for that info. My question was not about the Export Tools specifically which operate on the table alone. I was referring to using the browser's printing function to print the entire page which contains more than just the table. The "Include HTML" option doesn't change the look of the links when the whole page is printed.
My apologies, I did not realise it at first, thank you for the clarification, I see what you mean now. Unfortunately, we don't have any way to change how the links are going to look for printing of the Page.
At the moment, it is as you described, there is no way to only show the text of the link, and not the url.
Since printing of the Page is not our Plugin's functionality, but rather it is the brower's functionality, there will be no way for our developers to improve that. We will try to somehow improve our own Table Tools export options in the future for this purpose, but we can't say an ETA on it.
