Hi - my client is looking to upgrade to a better bookings system for his mobile mechanics business so 2 questions.

    1) we are redesigning his website. If we buy and use the plugin now on the current site whilst we build the new site (a few months off) can we export the settings / bookings etc from the current site and import to the dev site when we go live with the new website?

    2) He has several mechanics that cover different cities in the UK. When people book a service will the system guide them to the correct calender (mechanic) for their area ie if we are able to enter post code areas etc by mechanic - or via a different way?

    Hi Philip,

1.Regarding migrating the Amelia installation from one Site to another ( from Staging to live, for example) so that you don't lose any data :

The easiest way is to clone your website.

You can do that by using the Duplicator plugin. It will generate a couple of files that you can transfer to the new domain and it will create an exact copy of your website.

The Duplicator plugin can export only up to 500MB of data, so if your site is bigger than that, you can use the All-in-One WP Migration plugin.

Other than cloning your website, there's a way to migrate only Amelia's database tables.

There are around 47 tables with wp_amelia_ prefix that need to be moved. Please note that wp_ is the default database prefix, but on your end, it could be anything, so look for your_prefix_amelia_ tables.

Besides that, you also need to go to wp_options and search for option_name "amelia_settings" - which returns one row, so you need to copy the option_value and paste it in the same field on the other site.

Note that this contains all the info from your old website, so you will need to replace the URLs in this cell.

    2. In regards to the second question, the technical use-case :

    Amelia has a Locations feature, which might be useful to configure for your use-case;

but it depends on how many locations there will be and if you need the same mechanic to cover multiple Locations or not - we do have workarounds to achieve that, but maybe it will be easier to just add a custom field to the Booking Form and make it a mandatory field, so the Customer would have to fill in their Adress and/or Post code, so this will get recorded into the booking and the Employee ( mechanic) can see the customer's adress that way.

    More on Custom Fields :

You can collect more data from your customers using Custom Fields (Amelia > Customize > Custom Fields).

For appointments, these fields will appear on the Booking form under the default fields, and once your customer fills them this information will be shown in the appointment information on the back-end.

You can find more information about Custom Fields here.

For example, if you assign each Employee to a different Location - and you hide the Employee selection from the Form, then the customer would just see to pick their location and the right Employee would get assigned to the appointment automatically.

We also have the Resource booking feature, which can be useful for certain scenarios.

Our support will certainly be here if you try the use-case and if you struggle with any step along the way, we can provide advice and guidance, etc.

Additionally, I just wanted to point out that we have pages with Demos, that you can use to try out the plugin's features - https://wpamelia.com/demos/

and there is a 15-day money-back guarantee period, so if you purchase the plugin, you can safely fully test it out,

we would assist you with our support along the way, and if it doesn't fit your needs you can request and receive a refund in that period.

    Kind Regards,
