Hi,
After downloading the supplied zip file for version 7.6, I cannot open the file or extract the content.
This is necessary I believe for upgrading our old installation of 7.4, right?

Thanks for reaching out to us. There is no need for extracting (unless if you want to use the files of Amelia in other ways). You need to install this version in Plugins section in WordPress. There is no "update hierarchy", you can upgrade to the latest version without the other versions installed previously. Please, refer to this article for more instructions - Updating the plugin to the latest version
