I have a table set up with 7 columns. When searching, i would like it to only search on column 1. It is searching all columns which returns way too much data rendering the tables unusable for us. We use search more than anything.
Any way to set the search function to only search on specific columns? Or have a dropdown to select which column to search on in the frontend GUI?
Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.

The only way for us to exclude some columns from the table search is to go in each Column settings, then in the filter settings, set it to exclude it from table search.
Please note that searching and filtering for each column is linked - we won't be able to , for example, allow a filter for the column without it being 'searchable', if that makes sense.
In other words, if you disable a column from search, it also disables the advanced filter for that column.
For example, on our Demo Sandbox Table ID 1, you can see how that works;
If we wish to only allow this 'position' column in the table search, then we can disable all other columns via the Column List on back-end.
Now, if we try to search on some value from other columns - it returns no results, it only searches for this position column.
That is the only way to set up the individual columns/ which one is searchable by the table's 'search block'.
2. When it comes to a dropdown to select which column to search;
Did you try our advanced column filtering feature and setting a selectBox or multiSelectBox filter on the desired column?
Then, you can disable the filtering and search on all other columns as advised above - but now you can also optionally choose if you need the table search or if you just wish a dropdown filter selection for your column;

If not, please check out all our available column filters here;

you can, of course, enable both.
I hope that helps.
