I have hired a team to rebuild my site, they are almost finished, and that site will be on the same domain name as the previous one for which I have Amelia for. My question is this. I need to have what I did in Amelia transferred over to the new site. How do I properly do this?
I read that when transferring to a new site (nor necessarily new domain??), that one has to download the tables and install them on the new site, if I remember correctly.
Thus, how do I transfer my Amelia to my new site, same domain name?
You can clone your site with some duplicator or cloning plugin, also there's a way to migrate only Amelia's database tables.
There are around 47 tables with wp_amelia_ prefix that need to be moved. Please note that wp_ is the default database prefix, but on your end, it could be anything, so look for your_prefix_amelia_ tables.
Besides that, you also need to go to wp_options and search for option_name "amelia_settings" - that returns one row, so you need to copy the option_value and paste it in the same field on the other site. Note that this contains all info from your old website, so you will need to replace the URLs in this cell.
Hope this helps.
If you have any more questions please open another ticket and we will gladly help you there.
Thank you! It seems like this plugin is to clone to a new site or new server, which is not what I am doing, both the domain name and the server will be exactly the same.
Here is the background so perhaps we can get to the correct plugin. I had a WordPress site built and hosted on a private server. Amelia is one of the plugins installed. The site was "rebuilt" and they are in the process of getting it live, where I found out today, that they tech was going to try and point the domain name to a different server their company uses, asking ne for login information to the website that my colleagues private server uses, which of course raised a HUGE red flag, told them that they cannot do that, and to send me everything and I will get it live, where of course, they are in the process of doing so. In respect to Amelia, I have deactivated it on the current site and activated it on the site that should be going live soon, again, same domain name and server. Thus, it seems like that a plug in may not actually be possible in this case?? where I can either 1) Just redo everything myself, "by hand" from start, which would entail, adding the courses in again, employees, API integrations, etc. which I actually do not mind doing, and would take 2-3 hours, or 2) Reactivate the Amelia that is on my current site, download the Tables (I think I read that there are 74), and upload them into Amelia on the other site. One thing, the site that we are working on, does not have my company's url associated with it, yet, and is on some random url that the company is using, so perhaps to avoid confusion, it may be better just to add everything in again, where I need to edit some stuff anyways? Thanks, John
Thank you for providing the detailed background on your situation. Given the specifics you've outlined, I would also suggest handling this manually. Here's why:
Control and Accuracy: Manually re-entering the data ensures that everything is set up exactly as you need it. This includes adding courses, employees, API integrations, and any other custom settings. Since you mentioned that you need to edit some stuff anyway, this approach will allow you to make those adjustments seamlessly.
Avoid Potential Issues: Using a plugin to transfer data can sometimes lead to unforeseen complications, especially if the domain and server remain unchanged but the temporary URL might cause confusion. By manually entering the data, you can avoid any potential conflicts or errors that might arise during an automated transfer.
Time Management: You estimated that the manual process would take about 2-3 hours. While this might seem like a significant amount of time, it could actually save you time and hassle in the long run by ensuring that everything is set up correctly from the start.
Simplicity: Given that the new site does not yet have your company's URL and is using a temporary URL, manually setting everything up might be the simplest and most straightforward approach. It allows you to have a clean setup without any leftover issues from the previous site or server configuration.
In summary, while using a plugin could potentially streamline the process, the manual method offers a level of precision and control that seems well-suited to your needs. If you have any questions or need further assistance with the manual setup, feel free to reach out.
