My client warns me that her students no longer receive email notifications since Amélia's last update.
I just tested the notifications and I actually got an error message. On the host (one.com) they advise using port 587 with STARTTLS. In the settings I only have SSL, TLS or disabled.
Port 587 in TLS does not work.
The other solution, port 465 in SSL or TLS no longer gives an error message but I have a popup with a loading wheel which does not complete.
If I use Mail PHP or WP email I have a successful sending message but I never receive the emails (I tried with different emails).
Thanks for reaching out to us. I've logged in to your website using the creds for the previous tickets. We recommend using the SMTP protocol because the email that is sent with PHP Mail generally gets flagged as spam by mail servers and also can take some time to send.

Right now, the mail settings have been configured to WP mail, so i'm not able to inspect the issue through the console. Please configure the SMTP settings and let me know, so i can log in again and take a look.

When I do a test in the notification settings I get an error message. To be sure that the problem does not come from the server, I tested sending emails to and from the one server and I received the emails instantly.

message: "The following From address failed: [email protected] : MAIL FROM command failed,[M12] Service suspended for <lejardindivin.fr> (4ba6f441-b45c-11ee-bcca-e3adcfa4e760)\r\n,550,5.7.1SMTP server error: MAIL FROM command failed Detail: [M12] Service suspended for <lejardindivin.fr> (4ba6f441-b45c-11ee-bcca-e3adcfa4e760)\r\n SMTP code: 550 Additional SMTP info: 5.7.1"
It seems like this is related to the hosting, i guess you can check with them.
Please, let me know when you have a feedback from them.
They tell me that the email address has been blocked due to sapmming. They also tell me that your plugin does not offer captcha and that they will only unblock the address when I can prove to them that I have systems in place to avoid it.
Concretely they ask:
- Update the CMS:es / forums (the cms was already up to date) - Ensure that email sending functions are protected by a captcha or similar system or deactivate Amelia. - Disable "send a copy" functions on contact forms.
I'm not telling you this to accuse you of anything, I'm just giving you the message and I don't care who is right or wrong in this story (I'm not either really convinced of one.com's answer), I'm just looking for a solution.
We do have a captcha system, it Google ReCaptcha, but this is used on the booking form, to prevent from spamming. Honestly, this doesn't make sense, all other users are using Amelia with various email providers and certainly, there hasn been any requests like this, when it comes to the notifications issue.
We don't have "email sending" captcha system, so i'm not really sure what they mean by that. I guess their policy is to have this type of protection, perhaps, your email address was blocked because of the spamming from other applications.
I am actually trying to check the contact and newsletter forms which are managed by Mailchimp but for the moment I do not have access to the account because there is a double authentication and my client is traveling for the next few days and is not available. So I have to put this problem on hold.
