I have a series of floats in a column in google sheets, when imported to WPDatatables it shows up in the column editor as a float data type, but appears with a comma, once I open the editor. how can i get it to accurately show my float
if you can first make sure to update your wpDataTables to the latest 6.0 version, because i think from your screenshots that you probably have an older version.
In our newer versions, for importing Data, we added this new option that allows you to choose for each Column exactly how many decimals you need - and i will also help with the Number Format issue.
When you are importing this Data from your Source Sheet;
If you are choosing the 'Create a data table by importing data from a data source' option in the Table Creation Wizard - then it is important to choose the correct Data Type for each Column as you will need it to be stored in your SQL Database.
For example, if i make this Excel file ( the same logic will be for Google Sheets) as my Data source with a few numbers :
And i set the Number format as the thousand separator to be comma, with the decimal separator as dot;
We also need to make sure to select the same Number Format in your Main Plugin settings/Number Format;
-
You can also set your preferred number of decimals there.
Then, during the import of this Excel file - we also need to make sure to set it up as a Float right away.
Because if you first set this Column as "String" Type - this saves she Field in your SQL as "VARCHAR" or "TEXT", then later you can not use it as Numeric Data.
When you save it first as a String, and later just change to Float in our Plugin - it will still be stored in your source database Column as "String type".
-
So, it is best to choose "Float" Data Type right away for that Column during Import.
Also, make sure to set your desired number of Decimals here - change the Type Value from 16,4 to 16,2 if you need only 2 decimal points.
Let me know if that helped and if you have any questions.
I'm unable to make the hours section come up correctly formatting the column didn't get the results I wanted either. it shows up as a decimal in the data preview, but shows up wrong when I open up the standard editor, I updated to newest version and the problem persisted
Milos is currently out of the office, so I'm stepping in. I requested access to this file with [email protected]. Please let me know once you enable it.
Also, please send me a few screenshots of the date/time format issue so I can check that out as well.
