Hey there, Awesome Customers!

Just a heads up: We'll be taking a breather to celebrate International Workers' Day (May 1st and 2nd - Wednesday and Thursday) and Orthodox Easter from Good Friday (May 3rd) through Easter Monday (May 6th). So, from May 1st to May 6th, our team will be off enjoying some well-deserved downtime.

During this time, our customer support will be running on a smaller crew, but don't worry! We'll still be around to help with any urgent matters, though it might take us a bit longer than usual to get back to you.

We'll be back in action at full throttle on May 7th (Tuesday), ready to tackle your questions and requests with gusto!

In the meantime, you can explore our documentation for Amelia and wpDataTables. You'll find loads of helpful resources, including articles and handy video tutorials on YouTube (Amelia's YouTube Channel and wpDataTables' YouTube Channel). These gems might just have the answers you're looking for while we're kicking back.

Thanks a bunch for your understanding and support!

Catch you on the flip side!

Warm regards,

TMS

Creating Tables from Sharepoint
Closed

Comments

  • Kevin started the conversation

We have done some testing within wpDataTables and really like the way the formatting and search features work. That said what we really need is the ability to create a table from existing sharepoint files and wpDataTables throws errors when trying to use links from sharepoint for excel or json files. We ensured that our admin opened file sharing to anyone.

The file example can be found here: referrals.json

    Thanks

    Hi Kevin,

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.

I am sorry to disappoint you, but for the time being it is not possible to link our Tables from Data stored on SharePoint.

When you provide an URL as data source for an Excel for example, or JSON, the path needs to be the full path leading to the file ending in the file extention.

So, for example, if you have an Excel file, the path in our Table's source needs to be something like : https:/someLocationOnline/yourFile.xls

    or for JSON, also

    https:/someLocationOnline/yourFile.json

When it's on SharePoint, then the ending of the URL does not end with the file extension, so our Plugin can unfortunately not read the data like that.

We already had some user requests to add a new File source option for SharePoint, so we plan to work on it in the future, but i can't say an ETA on it.

Please feel free to search on our suggestions page

to see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there,  and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.

    You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;

and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

    Milos,

A quick question as we are unable to test it on the lite version of the plugin. Are you able to customize the print version of the table. Ideally we need to be able to add a header logo and possibly some footer sponsor info as our data is being funded through a grant.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Kevin,

You can test this on our Demo Sandbox Site, it has all the full features you could try.

( You will find other Add-on Demo sites in my Singature, too, which can be used for testing)

We have some pre-made tables but you can also create your own new Tables there and test some full features.

Our devs have just blocked creating new Pages and adding Custom Scripts there for security reasons, but our Plugin is based on a "What you see is what you get' concept, so the back-end of Tables should function the same as on front-end.

In regards to your question, i am sorry to disappoint you, but it is not possible to customize the Print / or PDF / Excel/ CSV export of the Table.

Just going to add more details about that :

The table tools functionalities are based on a 3rd party HTML5 library and they are not customizable.

There are some limitations in this library we will emphasize for your awareness:

    • For tables with server-side processing, only the visible rows will be exported to any format. If you want the entire table to be exported (or copied to a clipboard), you need to choose the “Show All” feature in the “show … entries” block, and then do the export:6992668217.png
    • Generated PDF, XLS, CSV are not customizable. Unfortunately, the library allows very little “fine-tuning” of the generated files, so font, size, and other properties cannot be changed (but the title can – see below).
    • Conditional formatting is not reflected in any of generated export files.
    • Other front-end extensions cannot be combined with Table Tools. If you have row grouping enabled for the table, or there are some customizations you did yourself, they won’t be reflected in the generated Excel, CSV or PDF document, nor in the clipboard.
    • When you export tables with the wpDataTables plugin, please note that you can export values, but not formulas. WpDataTables doesn’t support exporting formulas, so a Formula column will be exported only with values; and any calculations of Average, MIN, MAX, and Total will not be exported at all.
    • Exporting images is not possible at the moment, but you are able to export them as HTML with the new “Include HTML” option.
    • You can’t export columns that are hidden – they will not be visible in any exporting or printing tool.
    • Export numbers with comma as decimal separators have issues in the Excel report. Please use the CSV export button or change column type to string for these columns.

If you wish to try additional PDF Export functionalities, our advice would be to acquire something similar to the WP Advanced PDF plugin, which offers a lot more options when creating PDF files from our tables, along with other content on your website.

    2. Only alternative way we have, how you can customize an Export of a Table to add custom Header Logo and add some footer info, can be with our Add-on Report Builder.

At the moment, we still do not have PDF for Report Builder, but our developers plan to work on it soon.

If you wish to affect that development speed,

Please feel free to search on our suggestions page

to see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there,  and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.

    You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;

and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

If you wish to try our Report Builder, it is available on our Demo Sandbox Site, you can check some of our existing Reports there and see how it looks when you export to Word or Excel documents, or add your own Reports with your Word / Excel Template , and your Logo , additional text etc and see how it looks.

    I first recommend to check out the basic introduction about Report Builder here, you will also see a small Demo there on the Page;

Then you can go through the Documentation here, which explains step-by-step how to make templates, the options, and you will find additional Examples we made, too.

    I hope that helps.
