Hey there, Awesome Customers!

Just a heads up: We'll be taking a breather to celebrate International Workers' Day (May 1st and 2nd - Wednesday and Thursday) and Orthodox Easter from Good Friday (May 3rd) through Easter Monday (May 6th). So, from May 1st to May 6th, our team will be off enjoying some well-deserved downtime.

During this time, our customer support will be running on a smaller crew, but don't worry! We'll still be around to help with any urgent matters, though it might take us a bit longer than usual to get back to you.

We'll be back in action at full throttle on May 7th (Tuesday), ready to tackle your questions and requests with gusto!

In the meantime, you can explore our documentation for Amelia and wpDataTables. You'll find loads of helpful resources, including articles and handy video tutorials on YouTube (Amelia's YouTube Channel and wpDataTables' YouTube Channel). These gems might just have the answers you're looking for while we're kicking back.

Thanks a bunch for your understanding and support!

Catch you on the flip side!

Warm regards,

TMS

Display, Grouping, and Calculations

    Greetings!

I am having trouble making something display like I need it to. It seems that the functionality is there, but I'm not able to make it happen correctly. The main thing I need is to display a table that shows counts of column data. It's sort of a combination of what an accompanying chart is displaying as well as the grouping column data feature, but I don't want to display each individual row of data, I need to show the grouped data, but I also need it to recalculate based on filters. So, I need what the chart is showing, but back in a table, and responsive to filters. I am trying to replicate the functionality in the attached screenshots, but with better display, and ideally the chart as in the linked site, but I need the data in the table most importantly.

    Hi Jared,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

I apologise, but i am not sure if i am understanding your exact use case and all its details,

so let me know if i misunderstand along the way.

If i read the description and try to focus on a specific part of the data,

for example as you already have the "Grouped Chart" ,

so if someone picks a Filter for the "Budget Categories", and if we say "show just the Under $200 000",

then the Chart reacts to it and shows there is 23 of them from the Table.

But it seems you need this functionality as it works for "Chart Grouping" but in a Table,

to count how many times a String value repeats?

If that is the case, i am truly sorry to disappoint you, but at this time we still do not have a valid solution to do this in Tables,

since it is not possible to make any calculations or to use a Formula with non Numeric Columns

so that eliminates any workaround with built-in options, sadly.

As we can only use Calculations or Formula for Numeric Columns only at the moment.

This feature is convenient only for Charts, but we don't have the same one for Tables yet.

I think this is a great idea for a development suggestion, though.

Please feel free to search on our suggestions page

to see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there,  and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.

    You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;

and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

I am trying to think of any other possible workaround you could try...

Since the version 5.7 our developers added the possibility to add calculation functions for Formula columns,

so you can only try to add something like a "COUNT" Numeric Column,

which will count how many times a String Repeats in any row,

by setting it to always be auto-populated as "1".

So if you add a new Numeric Column in your Table, and set "Predefined Editor value" as always being "1",

you could later use that Column in a Formula,

but we mostly just use that in a Chart, to present Grouped Values,

I can't say a valid solution for your use case in a Table at the moment,

that is the closest i can think of with our current capabilities, i am not sure if that might help with your use case at all.

If you have coding skills and wish to try to make a custom solution now,

you can check out our available hooks for Developers on this documentation and see if you can find any hook that might help.

Please be advised that custom solutions with hooks are not included in our support.

You can also research resources such as Stack Overflow to see if any other user perhaps found a workaround.

( We do like to give examples for certain solutions, but for this use-case, we, unfortunately, don't have anything yet)

Thanks you for your thorough and thoughtful response Milos. It seems like you understood the use case well. I appreciate you.

One wondering I had is if I could find a way to use two tables together with the single cell shortcode functionality. So if have my first table, and hid everything except the filters, and then I made a second table, probably manually, and used the sum calculation on a numeric row as you suggested, could I then use the single cell shortcode for that sum in a different table, but still have it adjust based on the filters in the first table. As long as those tables are on the same page, could that work?

    Hi Jared,

Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.

You're welcome, i am happy to advise on the current capabilities.

In regards to using multiple tables like you described,

such as hide the first table and just leave Table 1 filters on a page,

then adding a second Table on the same Page,

and then to use the SUM calculation / or single cell shortcode in another table,

while having the filters of the first table have an effect on it,

    that is unfortunately not possible.

When it comes to filters, you can only use the filters for that particular Table,

it is not possible to have a filter from Table A  affect anything in Table B.

The only way to set a filter that can affect multiple Tables on same page,

can be through URL pre-filtering with a parameter,

    but only if you got the same column name in both tables on a Page;

Then for example if you pass any filtering parameter through the URL of that Page,

    both Tables would get filtered.

But that is a completely different use-case, not the one you need here.

This is a nice idea for a future solution, though, so
