Hello! I find your plugin with addons very interesting! My organisation publish statistics monthly with tables that have preset fixed parameters. My question for you is whether it is possible to set up a template so that monthly import of data can make use of your features (conditional formatting, graphs etc.) without us having to every month go through a wizard to set the same features for the same table (where only the figures change)?
or perhaps if i misunderstood, please elaborate a bit more?
-
We have other methods to create tables, such as tables linked to source data,etc; but we just need to clarify what is needed for your use-case, then we can advise more.
-
And i just wanted to point out that you can try wpDataTables before purchasing
on our sandbox Demo sites ( you can find links for the main plugin Demo,
as well as add-on Demos, in my signature),
and there is a 15-day money-back guarantee period,
so if you purchase the plugin, you can safely fully test it out, and if it doesn't fit your needs you can request and receive a refund in that period. ( same goes for all plugins and add-ons)
Let me try to elaborate on our issue, which is on customized templates: 16 times a year (Every month and every quarter) we publish statistics. So my request is not about updating an existing table, and it's graphs, but create a new table and graphs from a preset template. Hopefully withouth having to manually process the formatting of the table and the creation of the graphs every month / quarter, because the categories and presentation should be the same every month.
So for instance: Series 1 - January - create the "monthly template" for formatting a table and creating graphs based on january statistics February-December - import monthly statistics into the "monthly template" to publish a series of statistics reports which are identical in formatting and setup, but showing different numbers in the monthly reports.
Series 2
April - create the "quarterly template" formatting and graphs based on statistics on 1st quarter July - October - January: import quarterly statistics into the "quarterly template"

At this time, i am thinking of a workaround you could try.
Perhaps if you use tables linked to Source Data, such as Google Sheets, CSV, Excel, or SQL Query based tables.
For example, let's say if you have a Google Sheet connected with a table.
You can make a duplicate of this table,
and then go in the table settings, and just change the "source URL path" , hit "Save Changes",
then the table will pick up the new/updated Sheet's data while keeping the table structure and settings.
But i realise that this method still needs manual input to change the source data URL, and hit "Save Changes" in each new table duplicate;

Hi, Bjørgulv Vinje Borgundvaag.
I am not sure if i fully understood the exact use-case,
in regards to updating a table via uploading of updated data.
-
For example, we have this feature where you can import the data initially from CSV/Excel or Google Sheet.
This will make a new Manual Table, with its own columns and rows in the Database.
Later, if you keep the same column structure, but just update the rows in your source data;
you can update an existing Manual Table by uploading CSV/Excel or Google Sheets,
and you will have the option to choose the method, such as if you just need to add new rows;
or if you want to completely replace the source data;
-
The table will keep any Conditional Formatting you have set, and any column/table settings.
Please check more about importing initial source data to make a new Manual Table here;
and here how you can
update existing table via file upload.-
Let me know if that is what you need,
or perhaps if i misunderstood, please elaborate a bit more?

Hello Milos, thankyou so much for your reply!

Hi, Bjørgulv Vinje Borgundvaag.
Thank you for clarifying the use-case and the goal.
I am truly sorry to disappoint you, but we currently do not have any way to automate creating new tables in our plugin.
Each new table has to be manually created via the "Create Table" Wizard.
You can make duplicates from tables, though, from the back-end wpDataTables list,
but that will also duplicate all the rows - not just like an "empty table configuration/template without rows", so to speak.
If i understood , that would be ideal for you - to just somehow duplicate existing tables,
but to remove the "old rows" and just add the "new rows" in the data, while keeping the same table settings, column settings, etc?
Right now, we do not have something like that, sadly;
but it is a good idea for a future option.

there is no automated way for that either.

Or, if you use a Manual Table,
you can either make them from scratch, or duplicate them, or import data from CSV/Excel/Google Sheets to make new Manual Tables;
and existing manual tables can be updated via file upload;
but i am also not sure if that will be ideal for your use-case, it does need a couple of manual steps, too.
2. And regarding charts/graphs, for them it is the "same story", basically;
Each chart needs to go through the setup in the Wizard - you have to choose which table, which columns, configure the chart options, etc;
You can only make duplicates of charts, and then try to change their configuration,
you can change the source Table in the Wizard while keeping the rest of the chart's settings, perhaps that can work for your use-case,
until we make improved options in the future.
Kind Regards,
Miloš Jovanović
