Good news; the wpDataTables solution that I proposed, and mentioned in my previous ticket, looks good to our customer! For this I need to be able to add calculated columns and filter on it.
1. Can you give me instructions in how to add a such a column to a table? The formula column is to limited for this. I would like to add a column wherein the ISO week number is calculated, based on a date field from the record, and another one to display the month based on said field.
2. Also I would like to add the ability to filter on these calculated fields. Or at least to be able to filter on month or week number.
It will be a great feature when you add the ability to add a custom column, wherewith you can add PHP and/or Javascript code. I believe that many customers and potential ones will welcome this with much enthusiasm!
Ps.: Another way to display a field with the related month is bij using a week relational field in a lookup and then add a column that displays other columns from the related table. With this I have not realised the month filter field. How can I add this?
I am sorry, but for both points #1 and #2 , i am not fully understanding what you are trying to achieve,
and what kind of data/ columns would be used for that use-case.
Could you please elaborate more , and if you can show us some screenshots or record a Video to show us what will be the table structure and which columns you would need to use for the calculation,
and for the filtering in the second point?
-
3. In regards to the alternate way where you described using a week relational field then adding a column that displays other columns from the related table,
i sincerely apologise again, but if you can clarify what you meant by this as well?
I can reach out to our senior 2nd level Team to check if we have any way to currently achieve this with a workaround,
but if you can first clarify all points so that we are sure to understand what is needed.
If you send us any confidential Data, just mark the reply as PRIVATE, for safety reasons.
I just saw that you have replied. It was 4 days ago already. Thanks!
Elaboration of the points
Table1 has ColA which is a date column.
CustomCol1 will calculate and display the week number, based on how it is done in Western Europe. In Excel it is the formula ISOWEEKNUM().
CustomCol2 will calculate and display the month. In excel that is the done with formula MONTH().
In the filtering section above the table, I would like to be able to filter on a week number or month, even though the data is calculated as explained in point 1.
Table1 has ColB which is a relational one, setup with the current functionality. How can we display one or more columns from the related table in Table1?
Suggestion for greater calc functionality with Javascript and PHP
Much will be possible when you extend the calc column functionality with a tab wherewith you can use Javascript to manipulate the display of data. I think of how Budibase offers this.
It will be very helpful when you can add PHP code in another tab for the same, that will be great due to the server side execution.
I am sure that you will leverage your product greatly and will get much more interests due to the greatly enlarged flexibility.
As far as i can see, what you described is not currently possible with any workaround with our plugin's current capabilities,
but we will double-check this with our 2nd level Team - i am not sure if i correctly understood all details from your use-case, we will get a second opinion.
If our senior Team knows of any workaround to achieve what you described, i will make sure to report back and let you know.
-
The main point, perhaps is that in our plugin it is not possible to use the same formulas/ functions as Excel has, we have completely different logic for our calculations and Formula based Columns.
-
Thank you very much for the suggestion though, we will pass all details to our developers,
and they will do their best to come up with improved options as you described.
I can't promise a realistic ETA if or when something like that might be possible,
but if you wish to affect the speed of development for your suggested improvements;
to see if someone may be already suggested this improvement/ feature.
If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there, and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.
You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;
and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

If you have coding skills and wish to try to make a custom solution now,
Indeed I am looking for wpDataTables enhancements but do not expect to have this in time, therefore a custom solution is wat I like to create and therefore apply and develop my coding skills to do so. When you can provide some starting points, perhaps some other types of examples that can be used as a starting and learning point, that will be highly appreciated.
About Excel formulas: I used it as an example of the functionality wished for, which probably is implementable via custom solution.
Regarding the Excel formulas, yes, i assumed that you just pointed that out as an example of a similar functionality that would be desired, i see what you mean.
-
Regarding the entire use-case in general, to be honest, i personally searched and i can't find any available examples that we might share,
which might help you get started for a custom workaround/solution, it seems we have not tried anything like that yet;
but we are double-checking with our 2nd level Team to see if they might have any advice.
As soon as they reply we will report back to confirm that for you.
If you try any of the hooks and if they don't behave as expected, you can reach out to us and we can ask our developers if they can provide assistance.
That is only for some basic modification/ to check if one of the hooks does not behave as expected,
but we will be very limited in how much we can help.
Sorry once again that we don't have any useful examples for your use-case at this time.

Hi, Joko.
Thanks for reaching out to us,
and i am happy to hear that your customer wishes ty try out wpDataTables.
When it comes to calculations and Formula based columns in our plugin,
you can check out calculation functions here ( such as SUM, Average, Min/Max, etc);
and here you can see how our Formula-based columns work - but it seems you went through that already.

If you have coding skills and wish to try to make a custom solution now,
you can check out our available hooks for Developers on this documentation and see if you can find any hook that might help.
Please be advised that custom solutions with hooks are not included in our support.
You can also research resources such as Stack Overflow to see if any other user perhaps found a workaround.
( We do like to give examples for certain solutions, but for this use-case, we, unfortunately, don't have anything yet)

Hi, Joko.
We checked with our 2nd level Team,
and very sorry to disappoint you - they also did not find any useful example of a similar solution or advice
that might help you get started with a custom solution to achieve your use-case.
We have not have the chance to try anything similar yet, but we will do our best to work on a solution with our developers as soon as possible.
At this time, you would have to go for a completely custom solution,
you can check out our available hooks for Developers on this documentation and see if you can find any hook that might help.
If you try any of the hooks and if they don't behave as expected, you can reach out to us and we can ask our developers if they can provide assistance.
That is only for some basic modification/ to check if one of the hooks does not behave as expected,
