I've been using Amelia for a couple of years now. I use my website domain mail via Google Workspace and my notifications emails are also set up via Gmail.
Today a client emailed me that she had booked a discovery call, but had received no confirmation. I checked Amelia and the appointment had been planned, including the Zoom meeting. My client nor me received any emails about this. So I checked the Notification settings. They were somehow set to PHP mail. I put them back on SMTP mail and saved, settings were retrieved from the database.
I booked a call via an incognito browser but again did not receive any mails.
I recently moved my website to another host. The Google MX records are present in the DNS settings on the new host server. Is there something else I should have done? I can't figure out why this isn't working anymore.
The settings for notification settings are as follows.
SMTP Host – smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port – 587
SMTP Secure – TLS
SMTP Username – Your Gmail address
SMTP Password – Your App password (details about setting up an app password can be found in the yellow notice section below)
The most commonly used SMTP Ports are 465 and 587. Port 465 uses “SSL” as SMTP Secure, while port 587 uses “TLS” as SMTP Secure. Make sure to check what the correct SMTP settings are for your mailing provider.
An issue with email notifications could be caused by several reasons:
Your hosting provider is blocking all 3rd party settings and only allowing their SMTP (or other) settings.
Your website has a PHP version of less than 7.
The credentials are not correct.
There's something else blocking the notifications from being sent.
If you're using Gmail, please check out this article for detailed setup instructions.
Please check these points, and let me know if you were able to resolve the issue. If you're still not able to resolve the issue, we'll need to remote into your website, and see what's going on.
Since everything was working before you change your hosting provider most likely issue is on their side. So please reach out to them and ask them to perform necessary checks.
This is not related to us this was designed by Google, and we have implemented this in our documentation on this link https://wpamelia.com/notification-settings/. What matters is that everything is working and that you have set it up.
If you have any more questions please open a new separate ticket for each question and we will gladly help you there.

Since when is this app password needed? I think this is a new thing?
I made an app password and now its working; notifications are being sent.
And can you please add a link to the explanation of the app password here: https://wpamelia.com/notifications/
