I'm looking for a convenient and responsive plugin that suits these needs:
I have my site in 4 languages. French, German, English and Luxembourgish. Can I have with Amelia only one calendar and also only one booking form allowing the contact to choose his language (even Luxembourgish)?
Less convenient but acceptable: four different booking forms linked to a unique calendar?
If your plugin cannot be translated into Luxembourgish, can I edit it manually?
Thank you for expressing interest in the Amelia plugin.
Please note that we do not have translators in our company, so all translated languages Amelia has have been translated by our customers. If you find any inconsistencies with the translation, please feel free to correct them using POEdit, or Loco Translate, open a ticket and send us the corrected translation, so we can add it to the plugin.
At the moment we have Spanish, German, Dutch, Russian, Romanian, French, Finnish, Italian, Swedish, Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese, Greek, Arabic, Slovak, Hungarian, Danish, Belgian, Japanese, Polish, Hebrew, and Chinese translation. Approximately 90-95% of the plugin is translated into the languages stated above.
To apply any of these languages, all you need to do is go to WordPress' General settings and set the site language to your language.
Please note that the languages mentioned above work only for certain locales. For example, we have Spanish (Spain) translation, which is saved with es_ES locale, but if you set your site language to be Spanish (Mexico), Amelia will not pick up the translation, since the locale is es_MX.
The solution here would be to either change WordPress' language from Spanish (Mexico) to Spanish (Spain), or access ../wp-content/plugins/ameliabooking/languages/ folder, and to copy the "es_ES" folder. Paste it in the same path (ameliabooking/languages) and rename the folder to "es_MX". Then, access the folder, and rename the two files from "ameliabooking-es_ES.po" and "ameliabooking-es_ES.mo" to "ameliabooking-es_MX.po" and "ameliabooking-es_MX.mo".
NOTIFICATIONS:
Notification templates are not included in the translations mentioned above, so when you access Amelia/Notifications, all templates will be in English. However, if your site is set to German (for example), the de_DE locale will be applied, and Amelia will use the templates you see in Amelia/Notifications, so if you don't translate these, all email notifications will be sent in English.
In cases like this, DO NOT add your language as a secondary language in Amelia. It is the primary language of your website, and Amelia will use it as a primary language.
Since your site is configured to your language in WordPress General Settings (German in this example), you only need to translate the templates you see when you land in Amelia/Notifications. The language drop-down you see in the top right is used only for additional languages (so, if the site is in German, you will add English, Spanish, Dutch, etc) through this menu:
So, if you have issues with emails coming in in English, instead of the language your WordPress site is set to, make sure you haven't added your language as the additional language, and translate the templates you see when you land in Amelia/Notifications.
I will try to do as you advise me to. The language of my site is French. When I installed the plugin, everything was in English. Should it have been in French?
Can you confirm that all languages will share the same calendar?
I tried the free plugin, so I couldn't test all the functions. I made a test appointment but didn't get any notification. So I'm a bit skeptical. Nevertheless, I intend to buy the full version in order to test more and see if the notification issue will be resolved. I hope I will not be disappointed?
Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.
Please provide me a temporary WP-admin (administrator) user for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue.
We do not interfere with any data or anything else except for the plugin (in case that’s a production version of the site), and of course, we do not provide login data to third parties.
You can write credentials here just check PRIVATE Reply so nobody can see them except us.
You can clone your site with some duplicator or cloning plugin, also there's a way to migrate only Amelia's database tables.
There are around 47 tables with wp_amelia_ prefix that need to be moved. Please note that wp_ is the default database prefix, but on your end, it could be anything, so look for your_prefix_amelia_ tables.
Besides that, you also need to go to wp_options and search for option_name "amelia_settings" - which returns one row, so you need to copy the option_value and paste it into the same field on the other site. Note that this contains all info from your old website, so you will need to replace the URLs in this cell.
Thank you very much for the FTP access and your patience.
I have passed this to our developers to check if it is possible for the Luxembourgish to be added into Amelia as it does not exist in the WordPress settings.
The translation of the "days and months" on the Calendar for the Appointment time slots is based on a 3rd Party library,
which will automatically translate if you have the correct language locale set up on the WordPress page.
We have most languages covered - but in some rare situations, we find a new language that is still not added to this library.
In that case, our developers build the new language and add it during an update.
-
We will elaborate more on how it works :
For example, let's say we wanted to translate the day labels of the Calendar above Time slots to French.
If i change my site language to French, Amelia automatically "triggers the translated library" for the months and days in the Calendar to French :
Here is how it looks if i leave WordPress language in General WordPress settings as English
-
And now, if i change WordPress language to French :
-
If you just need one language, set it as the WordPress default language in General settings and this should work.
If you need a multilingual site with Amelia, you will have to set up different page versions for each language you need with the help of a multilingual plugin.
My apologies for my previous response, I missed the part that there is no Luxemburgish language in WordPress settings and thus you could check the following article on how to set it up.
My theme is already multilingual and polylang seems to be part of it. I tried to install WPML but although wordpress indicates it is installed, it doesn't show up among the installed extensions.
As this is not part of Amelia plugin functionality, I would suggest that you reach out to WordPress support and they will be able to assist you with this.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Sorry, I forgot an important detail.
I'm currently testing the plugin on a staging site. If I'm happy with the setup, can I copy it on my live site or will I have to start from scratch?

Hi Uroš
I've been pretty busy since I can now do all the translations into Luxembourgish. One thing is weird though:
The calendar on the Luxembourgish page displays days and months in French. do you know where I can change that?
Kind regards
