I am running Amelia in German and have just started using Loco Translate to fix some missing/wrong translations. A major issue is the English word "cancel". In a context of canceling an appointment it needs to be translated as "absagen". But in the context of breaking off a transaction step i.e. not saving a change one has made or not going through with a booking but returning to a previous step, it needs to be translated as "abbrechen". This is especially confusing when customers log in and want to reschedule or cancel an appointment.
In Loco Translate there is only the one English word "cancel". I have translated it to "Absagen". When a client now clicks this option in order to cancel an appointment, on the following pop-up the buttons give them the options "Bestätigen" (which means "confirm", i.e. "Yes, cancel the appointment" or "Absagen" (which in this context has the function to break off the transaction and return to the previous screen, but to the customer will basically mean also "Yes, cancel the appointment".
The same issue is present when the customer choses "Verschieben" (reschedule). In the pop-up the button options then are "Bestätigen" and "Absagen" which will confuse the customer about how to break off the transaction. It will seem like they can only move forward with the rescheduled appointment or cancel the appointment.
Long story short: I need two separate translations that I can assign depending on function.
Firstly, I would like to sincerely apologize for the delayed response as we have been experiencing an unusually high number of tickets. I am sorry that it has taken longer than usual to respond to your concern and your patience is highly appreciated.

Of course, i hope that it will be possible to "separate" this translation into two words, just as you need it.

Did you perhaps try using our new redesigned, Step 2 Booking Form?
Here we added a "back arrow", so i think that will not be confusing for German customers, since you don't even have to translate anything, for the "go back" step :

I am familiar with both, the old and the new booking form and I am using both of them. I know about the possibility of customizing all labels in the new booking form as well as translating strings. I have tried out everything. :-)
They same issue exists by the way with the word "save" which means "Speichern" in the context of saving changes made on a page or else "Spare" in the context of saving some money because of getting a discount. Here I was able to adjust the translation because there are two separate strings available and I was able to translate them accordingly.
So, maybe all you need to do is add another string to the translation file? (There are quite a few strings missing btw. but maybe I should open another ticket for that...)

Unfortunately, we are not able to add another string for translation,
and the translations are made by our users, we don't have a professional translating team, we will do our best to improve that in the future - but currently our users send us translations, and we add them to the plugin translations folder, during updates.

- What you can try as a workaround here is, you can hide the button with this css, since there is an X button and clicking outside the area closes it too.
This should only be applied on the page with the customer panel in order to not mess up any other string. However, this will make the string static and won't change on multilingual sites.

I am not 100% sure how it goes, in regards to adding new strings for translations, and if that is something that we can do - but we can certainly ask our developers.
The best will be to open a new ticket for this question > then we can focus on that one for that subject;
and here we can focus to find a workaround for the "Cancel" button on the Customer Panel.
No, actually, my problem isn't solved yet. Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Please look at the originally submitted screenshot called "Selection_correct this way in German.png". In this screenshot the translations are correct only because I temporarily translated the word "cancel" to "absagen". I had to change this back of course because it affected all other areas of the plugin as well. So, I changed the translation back to "abbrechen" which works fine for the rest of the plugin as far as I can tell, but on this particular button it needs to be "absagen".
one more vote that the term "Cancel" needs two entries in the language file:
One for the common button usage of "OK" and "Cancel"
One for the meaning of "to cancel an appointment" because at least in German those are different words as described by Martina
Even in English i think this window for cancelling an appointment is confusing and i would rename the buttong to something else for a clearer user experience:
As the Cancel button here means "Cancel the cancellation" i would rename/retranslate the buttons to something like "No, keep appointment" and "Yes, cancel appointment". However, currently that's neither possible in English nor in German.
I will escalate this issue with our senior Team again, and we will do our absolute best to come up with any kind of a temporary workaround - until we devise a permanent solution.
We will do our best to give you an update as quickly as possible.
I just wanted to additionally ask something, to clarify and to make sure to confirm what we need.

At the moment, we are not able to make a workaround if you need two different translations on the same page.
For different pages, we can ask our 2nd level Team if there is a custom CSS workaround ( until our devs devise a better way in the future).
But I am still not sure if we fully understood.
I can see what you mean in terms of whenever the word 'cancel' is being used meaning "stopping the process" it should be "abbrechen".
And whenever it is being used as meaning "deleting an appointment" it needs to be "absagen".
But, as far as i am aware, it is only possible to 'delete' an appointment if you are an Administrator, from the back-end of Amelia? Since only Administrators can delete things, no other user role is able to delete anything.
And to cancel an appointment it is only possible from the Customer Panel on front-end,
and from back-end, from the Appointments Tab?
Can you show us if you found any other instance or a page where you need the other translation,
for cancelling or deleting the appointment where you need the word to be "absagen" ( other than from the Customer Panel and back-end Appointments)?
If you could show us some additional screenshots or a Video where the word should be "absagen", that can help, we just want to be sure to understand the full issue.

If you can also please consider my suggestion from before, to simply switch from the old Forms to our New Forms 2.0, there we added that "arrow" to simply go back in steps of the Form,
which is better in my opinion, compared to the Old 1.0 Forms where you had the "Cancel" button to go back in steps?
I am stepping in here as I, too, see a big potential for confusing customers here.
"Cancel an appointment" does not "delete" the appointment in a technical sense. It just changes the status of the appointment from "approved" to "canceled" (and maybe triggers some process for refunding the fee) (see pic4). So we are not talking about "deleting" an appointment, but about "cancel an appointment" (which is "absagen" in German) in opposition to "cancel the transaction" (which is "abbrechen" in German).
So yes: Cancel an appointment is afaik possible - in the frontend in the customer panel, - in the backend on the appointment page by changing the status. - I did not yet check the employees panel in the frontend though.
Interesting, that in the backend the translation is already correct ("Abgesagt" = "Canceled") (see pic5).
On pic 6 you see: - the changed status here too is shown correct: "Abgesagt" = "Canceled" (arrow in pic) - the dropdown option for editing an appointment has the confusing "Abbrechen" instead of the correct "Absagen"
The window that opens after clicking on "Abbrechen" on the other hand is correct! (see pic7) ("Termin absagen" = Cancel appointment" in contrary to the buttons with "Abbrechen" = "Cancel" vs. "Bestätigen" = "Confirm")
The little pop up windows, that appears after confirming the cancelation of the appointment is also correct, see pic8 ("Termin storniert" which is aquivalent to "Termin abgesagt").
I hope this helps to clarify.
And with regards to the alternative solution with the the back-arrow you suggested: This option is not in question here, as the correction is apparingly only needed in the dropdown for editing the appointment.
And as Peter already pointed out, the english version of this process is even more confusing esp. on the confirmation window.
i am honestly not sure if we have a valid solution at this time for what you described with our current Amelia's capabilities and the current available translations.
We are checking with our senior 2nd level Team to see if they can think of any kind of a workaround,
or if our developers will need to work on making improvements which could work for this use case,
and these particular translations.

actually I am not describing anything new. In fact what you described earlier is pretty much what is needed.
I just compared with the "reschedule" process in the customer panel ("Neu planen" in the German translation). The expression "Neu planen" occurs nowhere else in the frontend, so these entries seem not to be connected with other occurances.

I just happen to come over another instance of confusing translation of "cancel", please see in attached screencast "Aufnahme #8" (I recorded this scenario for another purpose in the first place)
In this screencast you also see some other translation issues: - the info for the purchase date is still in English - the pop up window is completely in English
For fixing this: - the red "Abbrechen"-button needs the label "Stornieren" instead - "Purchased" becomes "Gekauft am" In the pop up window: - "Cancel Package" --> "Paket stornieren" - "Do you want to cancel this purchase?" --> "Möchtest du das Paket stornieren?" - The two buttons (Abbrechen, Bestätigen) are fine here!
Please also check the English version of this process. Here the pop up window is really confusing about what someone is about to cancel. (See attached Aufnahme #7).
Please also check other translations. I just hat a quick look at French and Russian (cancel/annuler/отменять an appointment or a transaction, as described earlier in this ticket): They are all confusing about what will be canceled. As I work with international customers, this is indeed important for me.

The little pop up windows, that appears after confirming the cancelation of the appointment is also correct, see pic8 ("Termin storniert" which is aquivalent to "Termin abgesagt").
I hope this helps to clarify.
And with regards to the alternative solution with the the back-arrow you suggested: This option is not in question here, as the correction is apparingly only needed in the dropdown for editing the appointment.
And as Peter already pointed out, the english version of this process is even more confusing esp. on the confirmation window.

i am honestly not sure if we have a valid solution at this time for what you described with our current Amelia's capabilities and the current available translations.
We are checking with our senior 2nd level Team to see if they can think of any kind of a workaround,
or if our developers will need to work on making improvements which could work for this use case,
and these particular translations.

actually I am not describing anything new. In fact what you described earlier is pretty much what is needed.
I just compared with the "reschedule" process in the customer panel ("Neu planen" in the German translation). The expression "Neu planen" occurs nowhere else in the frontend, so these entries seem not to be connected with other occurances.

thank you for this additional example and the clarification,
i was not sure if this new example would need a different solution,
but i can see that all of this is tied with the main issue of the available translation for the English version of that "cancel" string.
At this time it is still not possible to achieve this,
unfortunately, we do not have a way to split one string from English into multiple possible translations for German, as mentioned before;
so that is the main limitation that stops our developers from making a solution right now;
but we passed this to them, and they will do their best to make a solution as soon as possible.
We still can't say an ETA, though, sadly,
but you can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like, where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;
and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

I just happen to come over another instance of confusing translation of "cancel", please see in attached screencast "Aufnahme #8" (I recorded this scenario for another purpose in the first place)
In this screencast you also see some other translation issues:
- the info for the purchase date is still in English
- the pop up window is completely in English
For fixing this:
- the red "Abbrechen"-button needs the label "Stornieren" instead
- "Purchased" becomes "Gekauft am"
In the pop up window:
- "Cancel Package" --> "Paket stornieren"
- "Do you want to cancel this purchase?" --> "Möchtest du das Paket stornieren?"
- The two buttons (Abbrechen, Bestätigen) are fine here!
Please also check the English version of this process. Here the pop up window is really confusing about what someone is about to cancel. (See attached Aufnahme #7).
Please also check other translations. I just hat a quick look at French and Russian (cancel/annuler/отменять an appointment or a transaction, as described earlier in this ticket): They are all confusing about what will be canceled. As I work with international customers, this is indeed important for me.

Maybe you might think of splitting up the English labels, too, as they are even more confusion. How about
"Quit" = Cancel transaction = "Abbrechen"
vs.
"Cancel" = Cancel appointment = "Absagen".
Just some thoughts.

We can see how this would improve our available translations for use cases like that;
