Responsive design: can manual table collapse like simple table?

I've gone through all of the documentation but we are still having some responsive design issues on mobile. Basically, I am trying to get a 'manual' table to condense on mobile the same way the 'simple' table does.

The example URL includes a normal <table> followed by a simple WP Data Table and a manual WP Data Table.

The manual table appears to only have the functionality to hides columns with a dropdown. It doesn't actually turn the column headers into row headers like the simple table does.

Is there a way to do this? I need the advanced cell options of a manual table with the responsive styling of a simple table. That is the entire reason we purchased this plugin.

Attached is a photo of the responsive changes I am trying to achieve. Some of it can be done by CSS but only if the table cells reposition accordingly like they do on the 'simple' table format.

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

    Hello Derek

    Thank you for your purchase.

Unfortunately, the simple tables are completely different from all other table types, so achieving the same display is not possible with the plugin's built-in features.

You could only use the responsiveness feature for manual tables, and in order to achieve a similar look you have in Simple tables, you'd need to devise some custom CSS which is not included in the provided support for the plugin, so we wouldn't be able to help you out with that.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Aleksandar,

Thanks for your response. What controls the simple table movement? Why does it only happen on phones and not on tablets or desktop? Not even small desktop screens <768px can load it, they just see a horribly scrunched table instead of the nice mobile version. Is there any way to fix this?

Additionally, the simple table on mobile renders almost like an iframe with inner scrolling. Is there any way to just have the table display full height?

We have been trying very hard to replicate the simple table responsive movement using a manual table but without any luck. Unlike with grids and flexboxes, there is no CSS to rearrange table cells. So your statement is very confusing: "in order to achieve a similar look you have in Simple tables, you'd need to devise some custom CSS."

A little explanation would be greatly appreciated. We cannot even view source on mobile to inspect what HTML changes the simple table makes to achieve the condensed mobile design.

Thanks again for the assistance, much appreciated!

    Hi, Derek

Apologies from all of us for the waiting time.

We've been looking to give you any examples and more details about the simple tables' responsive behaviour versus the Manual/other tables,

but we don't have any detailed examples yet.

I am sincerely sorry - as colleague Aleksandar pointed out, our developers made them completely different, so at this time it will be very difficult for us from the Support Team to analyze and come up with useful information that might help you figure out how to make other table types behave as Simple tables,

and our developers are very busy at the moment, working on some priority tasks and fixing bugs and issues with our plugins built-in functionalities.

I will pass these suggestions to our developers, and they will do their best to implement better customization options for responsive features as soon as possible.

Please feel free to search on our suggestions page

to see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there,  and as more people vote, the feature will move higher on the priority list.

    You can certainly follow our changeLog page if you'd like ( it is also available in the plugin dashboard), where we state any changes/new features/bug fixes during updates;

and our newsletter, so you're informed about new features, bug fixes, freebies, etc.

    -

If you need these solutions right now,

we can recommend reaching out to someone who does custom solutions, such as WP Kraken,
but we can't advise on their pricing.

    -

If you wish to inspect the source for mobile behaviour, you can try to use ( if you use Chrome browser) the developers console, and to switch into responsive mode for mobile, i hope that might help.

Sorry once more for the inconvenience.

    Kind Regards,
