Hello! I am building a website (cynosureheart.com) for a solo doctor, only 2 services: Initial consult and follow-up. I actually came down to either Amelia and Bookly, and built the site using Bookly (sorry!), BUT I am ready to switch due to shortcomings in the Bookly plugin. Specifically:
1. The doctor insists (and I agree) that the patient be able to register BEFORE making the appointment. Bookly doesn't allow this. So, can the Amelia form be customized so that the registration comes first?
2. Alternatively, is there a front end registration/form creator that works with Amelia so that the patient can first cleanly register and then make an appointment.
3. Is there any means for the patient to pay independently of credit card, etc. The doctor already has many patients who simply mail in a check. So, is there an option to approve the appointment without paying at all, and indicated an "I will send my payment in?"
Please, I appreciate your responses. If I get a yes on these, or even close, I will purchase and switch out plugins today!
Regarding registration, we don't exactly have it as you described, ( to only register without a booking form), but you can get the same result in the end.
Basically, you can create any kind of custom fields, and a custom form, where a patient has to fill in the data before booking the actual appointment. We even have attachment fields, if you need them to sign/upload any kind of document. ( More details on custom fields here)
Additionally, you can set the initial status when they finish the form to be "pending", and that can allow you to have further control over which appointments get approved. More details on appointment setttings here.
The registration of the patient in your Wordpress/Amelia also depends on what exactly you need to achieve and how many permissions you want them to have, there are various settings that allow you control over this.
- For example, the “Amelia Customer” WordPress role enables your customers to see their appointments in the backend calendar, and on the appointments list, and also enables them to cancel their appointments on the appointments list. They can also reschedule their appointments by drag and drop or the “Edit” option on their Calendar. Please be aware that this is possible only for single appointments. To give them this permission you need to enable the option “Allow customers to reschedule their own appointments” in the “Roles Settings”.
-
There is also a Front-end Panel for Customers, and by using it your customers can manage their appointments and events from the front-end page of your website.
And there is a setting you can enable, to automatically register users in your WP as "Amelia customer" role when they finish the booking form.
Regarding a front-end registration form, that would only serve to register a user in your WP, without any booking forms,
our developers might add something like that in the future, but I can't say an ETA.
If you need to use a third-party plugin to create this at this time,
we can't recommend a specific plugin to achieve this, but you can research, there are a lot of recommended lists of plugins, you can try them out and see which one might be best for you, here is such a list :
Yes, you can customize the way how the pricing is presented to the patients on the front end, and you can add another custom field, for them to indicate how they would pay.
Also, you can add another payment method to your website, that should not be an issue.

Let me know if anything was not clear, or if you have further questions. Thanks.
Additionally, I just wanted to point out that we have pages with Demos, that you can use to try out some of the plugin's features - https://wpamelia.com/demos/
and there is a 15-day money-back guarantee period, So if you purchase the plugin, you can safely fully test it out,
we will be here to provide any assistance along the way, and if it doesn't fit your needs you can request and receive a refund in that period.
Milos, thank you for your thorough reply. Yes, one thing I need to clarify because it is the critical aspect as far as the doctor is concerned.
The Patient CAN register up front in a separate form in order to make appointments. I am reading this correctly?
This is the very typical way in which any patient portal works. You register, set your own pw, and THEN make your appointment. Bookly does not do this. First you set your appointment and then fill out the details which simultaneously creates a wp user and a bookly user. Milos, when I looked at your on line demo, it behaved the exact same way.
So, that is why I need a clarification of this particular point. Yes, the patient can create an account/pw up front, or no?
I apologise, I didn't explain that part in a clear way.
- If an administrator, manager, or employee add new customers from the back-end into the Amelia system,
but a customer can not register themselves from the front-end page,
unless they make a booking;
only in that way is the customer created in Amelia,
so I am sorry to disappoint you on that critical point and that I did not properly explain.
- Our developers will add improved features regarding this in the future, but I can't say an ETA when that might happen.
Please feel free to search through our feature suggestion page, and see if someone may be already suggested this feature. If you can't see it, feel free to add your suggestion there, and it will be forwarded to our management for review.
After it's been reviewed it will be presented on the front page, for voting. Please note that it may take some time before your suggestion is brought up for voting since we receive quite a lot of suggestions on daily basis.
