I have a field defined as a multi-select field. When adding a new record, a field dropdown is automatically displayed with the values that have already been entered into the table.
But when I'm displaying a search form, that same field does not show the dropdown list of values. How can I make it so that the available values to search on in the field is automatically populated just like it does for data entry?
It sounds like you enabled "Define Values List" in the "Data" tab of this column's settings:
When this is enabled, the plugin will only display the values you manually entered in the list below. If those values are not manually added, but read from the table, you can click on the "Read from table" button listed below and it will read the new values also:
It was set up OK on the Data tab... it was the global search field that wasn't displaying the available values. But your comment prompted me to look on the Filtering tab and on that tab I saw the settings for Filter type. Changing that to Multiselectbox solved the issue for me.

Thanks Aleksandar,
It was set up OK on the Data tab... it was the global search field that wasn't displaying the available values. But your comment prompted me to look on the Filtering tab and on that tab I saw the settings for Filter type. Changing that to Multiselectbox solved the issue for me.
Good news, Norm, thanks for letting me know.
