Hi,
I'm working on a restaurant website where we need to be able to create reservations for the restaurant. Can you guys give me some insights how to do this in the best matter? There are 3 blocks each day, Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We can have 60 people in each block. They can reserve a time in one of those blocks.
Regards Wouter
Hi, Wouter,
Thank you for choosing Amelia.
Basically, there are two types of bookings in Amelia: Appointments (aka Services) and Events. Appointments are being defined by the Service's duration, while an event has a predefined time and date set up.
For example, if you configure your service so it lasts 1 hour, and assign an employee who works Mon - Fri from 09:00 - 17:00, that service's appointments will be available for booking on every hour, so:
09:00 - 10:00
10:00 - 11:00
And so on.
When you're configuring events, you're setting the time and the date when the event will take place.
Multiple employees can host the event, but only one employee can be assigned to a service at a time.
Also, the service is offered all the time (Mon - Fri at the same time, unless you configure your employee's working hours so he works only on specific days at specific times), while an event is held only on particular dates.
One more thing: Google Calendar integration works only with Services at the moment (in case you plan to use it).
We used Events and Service on our demo sites, so you can see how both options can be applied.
So, you can use Events and set the Capacity for each time block to 60 attendees, then they will be assigned to particular hours by default. You can enable recurrence for these Events, and then they will be created automatically, so you won't have to add them manually.
Otherwise, if you prefer Services, you can create Service A, B, and C, set a duration for each Service (not sure how long these blocks last) and a capacity (60 people). After that, you will have to add Employees because each Service needs to be assigned to an Employee in Amelia (you can use fictional ones also), and make Services available during particular hours through the Employee's schedule, for example:
Hope that will help.
Best Regards.
