    Dear Sir or Madam,

I was trying to understand if it is possible, once a wpDataTable has been imported/created, to add (append) more record. It looks to me that it is not possible, is it? :)

Eventually, is it possible to use a plugin?

    Kind regards,

    CC

    Hi Carmelo

Thank you for reaching out to us.

I assume you are creating a table LINKED to an existing source? Tables linked to an existing data source don't have the front end editing feature since all the editing is done inside the source file. You would have to create a table importing the data from the source file to be able to enable front end editing

    https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/creating-new-wpdatatables-with-table-constructor/importing-data-to-editable-mysql-table-from-excel-or-csv-with-table-constructor/

I hope this helps, do let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Hi Blaženka, thanks.

Sorry, my question was incomplete and unclear.

I created a table by importing it (with data) from an existing excel file. My question is: am I able to add more rows (data) to it after I created it?

The reason for my question is this: all the filters and other settings are linked to a table. So, if the data are updated and I have it in a new excel file do I have to import it anew and do all the filter settings again? Sorry... I'm new to wpDataTable plugin and still learning.

    Thanks a lot for everything,

    Hi Carmelo

    Thank you for the clarification.

If you created a table linked to the file, you must overwrite the file located in ..wp-content/uploads/YEAR/MONTH/ folder, and the table will be updated when you do that, but you need to keep in mind that you can't change the structure of the source file, so renaming, deleting, adding or reordering columns in the source file will cause the table to break.

To update the table by importing the source file again, you'd need to remove the headers and existing rows, and include only new rows. Then, in the database, find the wp_wpdatatable_# that was created, and then import that new source file in there.

Another option would be to view the table in Excel-like mode in the back-end, and then bulk select; copy and paste the data from Excel. There's no way of updating the existing table by just updating the original source file.

Hi Blaženka, I'm just trying (desperately) without success.

I'm able to visualize the whole table in the backend in "Excel Like" mode. I'm able to select all records by pressing the column in safari or by CMD+A (select all) in firefox. I then press DEL and a kind of circle appears fow 5/10 seconds... as it was working. But then the rows are still there. I tried also by refreshing the page. What am I doing wrong?

The table in WordPress was imported from an excel file. Now I have to cancel old records and import the new ones. The column-order list of the new excel file is the same as the previous one.

    Please help.

WORKAROUND (solved): by selecting a couple of hundred rows and deleting it.

IMPORT - Now I'm trying to import the data by copy-and-paste... but all the that are set with field type "Multiline Select Box" are not able to receive the data. (image 01 and 02)

Being unable to import the data would force me to rebuild 20 filters by manually adding the filter values. (image 03)

    Kind regards,

    Carmelo Caruso

The table now is empty, but while I'm trying to change the settings of the field, hoping to be able to copy the data, I get nearly always the message:

    > Rendered query: SELECT * FROM dlI_wpdatatable_13 LIMIT 10
    > MySQL said: Table 'uk4gelu8_fggdb.dli_wpdatatable_13' doesn't exist

I would really appreciate some help here...   :)

    Hi Carmelo

To be honest I am a little confused. Can you please explain a bit more what you are trying to achieve and send us a screen recording if possible? Can you please share the source file you are using and the data you want to add to the table? You shouldn't have issues with pasting the values in the selectbox fields. Where is this SQL coming from if the table is imported from an excel file?

The more information you can provide us the sooner we can help you resolve the issuesmile.png

Hi Blaženka, I have reason to believe that some sistem problem arised as consequence to my deletion activity. In the end I recreated everything.  😓

Nevertheless learning how to update data in a table is very important to me. Soon I will take some time to experiment some more on the topic and write down a clear ticket with screenshot as you asked.

    Thanks again for now.
