Select the series on X and Y axes in scatter plot

    Hi,

Just wondering if it is possible to select series that are visible on the X and Y axes in a scatter plot

I have just imported an excelsheet with 1 column with string values, and two columns with integer values. I would like to create a scatter plot, with both the integer values on the X and Y axes. The string value should be displayed the moment a viewer hovers over a dot.

When I try to create the scatter plot, I have no option what is displayed on each axes. So in my examples, the string values are displayed on the X axes and 1 of the integer series are displayed on the Y axes. So this scatter plot doesn't make any sense.

Hopefully someone can give me a hint what I'm missing out, or what I'm doing wrong?

    Kind regards,

    Marck

    Hi Marck

Thank you for reaching out to us.

If you are using a String column, it will always be used for the X axis. So if you want to use only integer columns, the string cannot be displayed on hover. But, lest we guess, can you please send us that excel file and draw in Paint or wherever what you would like the chart to look, so we can try and recreate the scenariosmile.png

    Hi Blazenka,

Thanks for reaching out. I tried to attach an excelsheet, but I'm not allowed to attach an excelsheet.

Can I maybe send you a mail with the excelsheet?

    Kind regards,

    Marck

    Hello Marck.

    Sorry for the late response.

Using the table you sent us we have no issues recreating the chart using only the two integer columns:

However, the string column cannot be plotted on the dots - if you add it, it will be on the X-axis, and each row would be considered as a new value on the X-axis, so you'd have"Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Jena GmbH" with coordinates 1, 64, "ACON Biotech (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd" with 1, 34, and so on.

That is the default behavior of the charts engine, and I don't know if some custom solution would help you out here. That custom solution would have to be applied through wpDataCharts callbacks

    • Every chart exposes several options that customize its look and feel. Charts usually support custom options appropriate to that visualization. wpDataChart callbacks allow adding options that are available in Google Charts APIHighcharts API, and Chart.js API
    • All necessary resources are available in charts engines API (depends on which one you use). Every engine has a different approach to chart settings. In wpDataChart callbacks, you have to adopt those settings to the wpDataChart object (you can take a look at examples for each engine in our documentation, and also in the Support help center). A huge number of examples for any area of programming can be found on stackoverflow.com (typing your problem in google and at the end add "site: stackoverflow.com" and Google will search only that website). Also, a lot of examples of charts, chart settings, and customization can be found on jsffidle.net (typing in google for example "line chart highcharts jsffidle")
    • Please note that using hooks or wpDataTable and wpDataChart callbacks requires a certain level of programming skills and included support refers only to advice.
