I am using the feature allowing users to edit only their own data.

I believe that currently the userID column from the wp_users table is used to identify users and their data.

I would like to know if it is possible to use the user_login column from the wp_users table to do this instead?

Reason being that I have another user role who inputs all data. That user role does not know the userID from the wp_users table, they only know the user_login or user_nicename.
