Getting email working optimally

My client's customers are complaining that they aren't getting confirmation event emails in their inbox or even spam filter. This might be because I haven't configured things properly, but doing it the logical way appears to not work.

I am using a third party mailing service, Elastic Mail, to ensure delivery. EM provides me with credentials and instructions to get it set up in a typical SMTP way. When I do so using the Fluent SMTP WP plugin, I can reliably send emails from my WP dashboard.

However, when I place the same credentials into Amelia's SMTP email configuration (Settings > Notifications > Mail Service > SMTP), it accepts them but when I then want to send a test Amelia email from Amelia > Notifications, it indicates that it cannot send the email!

The only way I can successfully send a test email from Amelia's configuration is to indicate it to be WP Mail, which doesn't seem to be correct and is perhaps the cause of the undelivered emails. I've tried using PHP Mail as well but also get the 'cannot send email' notice.

FYI, Fluent SMTP has a built-in log and it shows all emails from Amelia being successfully sent out for the past few days. So I believe that all of the event booking emails are leaving the website, but I'm not sure if they're all being received.

Incidentally, when I set up DMARC for this client's email I indicated that I wanted to receive reports. I couldn't attach them to this ticket (you don't allow .zip or .json files), but you can access them here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AgDSePNKoac3h9wm2AC6o6h1Z0qnFg?e=g3KhJk

I thought there might be a clue in there.

    Hi again, Ian,

It might work if you use the Fluent SMTP WP plugin for sending notifications and set Amelia's mail service to WP Mail (WP Mail is the one that should be used with third-party plugins). Did you try this configuration before?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    LIza,

As I indicated in the fourth paragraph of my last email, what you have specified is the only way I can currently get a test email to send from Amelia and for people who have bought event tickets to actually get confirmation emails. But, as I mentioned, I didn't think this situation was optimal and many people don't seem to be receiving their confirmation emails when things are set up this way.

I guess my only other option is to test a different third-party email sending service.

    Ian,

    Thank you for the clarification.

Yes, I saw that part, I asked that question because it wasn't clear to me if you set mail service to WP Mail with the Fluent SMTP WP plugin or without. This option is suitable if a third-party plugin is enabled. If you send emails directly from Amelia, then it should be done with PHP or SMTP service.

So yes, this situation is optimal.

    Best Regards.
