Sorting by month on a data table

I write down my income and expenditures on a daily basis and have tabulated this data on my personal blog. I have the categories: when, how much, on what, and then the amounts for each day. I am trying to find a responsive table plugin (I know WP tables is natively responsive) that would sort the data by month so that by default the current month's data is shown but the reader has the possibility to tab back to previous month's data. I've tried your demo and I couldn't figure it out myself - if you could just let me know whether this is possible with your plugin before I make a purchase (if needed) that would be great. I also had some trouble formatting the date to show as "July 1" for example rather than 7/1/2021 even though I selected that format (I was linking to a live google spreadsheet with data). Would really appreciate knowing this before I purchase - I just spent about $50 on another plugin that didn't have this capability and would have like to not make that mistake again. Thanks! -Kat

    Hello Katherina

Thank you for your interest in wpDataTables.

Can you show me what you would like this table to look like?

You can create a table that would have all that data without issues, and I suppose you could use table filters to show only one month by default. Unfortunately, using placeholders like %CURRENT_MONTH% won't work for the filter, so you would need to preselect the month every month in the column's filter.

There are no tabs in the plugin, like you have in Excel, or Google Spreadsheets.

To use the correct date format, you need to change it in wpDataTables settings, and when you create a table linked to a Google Spreadsheet, go to the date column's settings, and select the date format that's used in the Google Spreadsheet.

You can test the full plugin on our sandbox site before purchase. Even if you purchase it, we have a 15-day money-back guarantee, so you can submit a refund request within this period of time.

    Kind Regards,

I attached a screenshot from my bog (currently using Graphina).

I guess a filter would have to do for now.

How would I setup the filer to show the current month's data only and then change it at the start of each new month? I'd like to set it up in the sandbox site before purchasing.

Also - an additional question - is it possible to add a sum to the bottom of a table for each months data (a sum of expenditures and a sum of income)?

    Hi Katherina,

thank you for the kind replysmile.png

Aleksandar is out of the office for the weekend, so I hope that you don't mind me replying.

Unfortunately, month change isn't automatic; as he advised, you would need to preselect the month every month in the column's filter.

For the sum, you can use Formula function or sum totals row.

Would you show me how to make the filter for my data table to filter month?

I am trying to create a table from a google spreadsheet on the sandbox site using the following sheet:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aDD99YxMCjAUUVb1qUORuE1Zls4gh8ShAdzT4wvxngE/edit#gid=0

and I am getting a "table has no rows error" - I looked up the error and did the suggested change of sharing so that anyone with the link can view but I still get the error - I am copying from the url as well

    Hello Katherina.

I have no issues creating a table with that Google Spreadsheet:

I used the same URL you provided in your previous response.

If we assume this Google Spreadsheet will have dates from July 1st until the end of the year (for example), you would need to go to the date column's settings and enable the date range filter. Then, in it you would need to predefine the dates from July 1st until July 31st, like this:

When you save that, the table will be prefiltered with these dates, but visitors would be able to change it and show another date range.

Are you also able to set the date to show as "July 1" for example in the date column? What kind of table did you select beforehand? I tried with the same URL to create a data table linked to an existing data source and I get the same "no rows" error. :(

    I've attached a screenshot.

Thanks for the step by step on how to setup the filter!

    Hi again Katherina

I simply created a table linked to an existing data source -> Google Spreadsheet, and pasted your URL, but it seems there's a bug on our sandbox site - sorry about that. The important thing is that your URL works with wpDataTables, and our developers are looking into the issue with our sandbox site right away.

As for the date format, you can only choose the formats that we have in wpDataTables settings:
