I have an employee, whose working hours normally work fine.
However when I set a 'special day' on the same day as a normal working day - whether overlapping normal work hours or not - they then show as 'away' during their normal working hours on that day.
e.g. Thursday, normal working hours: 9am-3pm. Works fine. Add a Special Day: Thursday 3pm-5pm. This then shows them as 'away' while I'm looking at the employee screen any time from 9am-3pm, and I can't create an appointment for them between 9am and 3pm.
Is it not possible to have a special day on the same as a normal working day? Seems a normal thing to need, e.g if someone is covering an afternoon for someone else or doing some extra overtime hours. Surely this can't be right?
It can't be a timezone/cache thing because they immediately show as available again if I just delete the special day...
They technically are "away", from their standard working schedule on that day - however, for the bookings they should be available for the schedule set in the Special Day.
If their day is 9 - 17 usually, and you set a special day to be 9 - 21 they should be available 9 - 21.
Special Day was made to override the Work Hours standard weekly schedule; so, would you mind if I take a look?
Please provide me a temporary WP-admin (administrator) user for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue.

I apologize for the later response as we don't work on weekends; I would love to take a look, just please send me the URL of your site so I can access the WordPress admin login page.
This can be another reason they are shown as Away; this also happens when you're looking at the Employees section outside employee's working hours.
For example, if your employees work from 09:00 - 12:00, and you're viewing the page at 08:59, or at 12:01, they will show "Away". If you're viewing the page at the time when the employees should work, verify that the time zone in WordPress' General settings is set to the city you're in.
Course Leader (LS) has a schedule + Special days, but she has a day off today so her label is Day Off.
if I now add a special time for today of 18-19 (so no overlap), – e.g. if we had an evening event, she immediately shows as unavailable, and unavailable for any bookings outside 18-19.
I apologize for this bit; yes this is normal the Special day overrides the standard day - Special Day will exchange the whole schedule for that day, so my apologies I did not state this.

Hi Mark,
thank you!
A lot of your employees have empty work hours:
This can be another reason they are shown as Away; this also happens when you're looking at the Employees section outside employee's working hours.
