If I have a large table with 30 columns, and I only want filters for 2 of them, does that mean I have to turn Advanced Filtering on and then manually turn off each of the other 28 column filters for which I don't want it on?
If so, that seems inefficient - I'd have to guess that advanced filtering would, on average, be used for less than 50% of the columns for most people's needs. Perhaps I'm mistaken, though.
As strange as that may seem, you are wrong. You wouldn't believe how many people use filtering for all columns (there are extreme cases with 50, or 100 columns, with all filters enabled).
You are correct with the assumption, though - you need to enable advanced filtering, and then turn off filtering for those 28 columns. Going into column settings for each column individually is extremely time-consuming, but you can click on the "Column list" button, and then disable filters by clicking on the Filter icon:
