I opened a ticket some months ago because of this issue, and you provided me with help and also added, that by the next update this issue will be automatically solved. I am not sure if there was an update in the meanwhile, my Amelia Plugin says its on Version 3.0.2.
I keep on having problems with customers can't adding there email!! They get an error for "e-mail already exists/ user already exists".
They resolve this problem by adding another email or even a wrong email, just to be able to book lessons with me. This of course is leading to several problems:
First of all they dont get any confirmations nor reminders to their incorrect email. Further it makes my backup system very confusing because I have from some regular customers now 2 or even 3 profiles with the same name but different (any partly) incorrect emails.
Last time you showed me that sometimes the problem is that the client books their first lesson with an additional space at the end or beginning of the email "[email protected]_ " but now, when I manually check the client profiles its mostly not the case.
In my booking system clients have no login option or possibility to change lessons themselves. People also tell me that their privat information is not automatically added to the booking form, and every week they book a lesson they have to type again all their data, which is cumbersome.
Current version of Amelia is 3.3; please update to that one so that we can make sure that issue is not from the outdated version.
In case that this does not resolve the issue, please go to Amelia > Settings > Roles > Customer, and disable the option Check customer's name for existing email when booking.
OK yesterday I haven't got any possibility to update, today I see the 3.3. update.
I will try how it works with the update, otherwise I would try your other adivce. Is there any downside of disabling this option of checking customer's emails?
please just let me know if you still face issues after the update; when you have time.
The only difference it would make is that customers could book with a same email but a different name. This would not duplicate the customer if you have Automatically Create Amelia Customer on, it would just save one first and last name for that customer, and every next name they book under will not change their first registered full name; it will have to be changed manually in the backend. You would still have only one customer with that email as Amelia recognizes only the email in this case and connects customer appointments to the same email.
Sorry to jump into this existing ticket, but I have exactly the same issue with Amelia v3.3 with several clients. When an existing customer try to book a new appointment with the same email address, they get an error "This email already with a different name" and then it blocks the appointment process. Customers can NOT finish their appointment.
In this specific case, I could narrow down the problem to a customer with a bit special name and a hyphen (-) in between. Sometimes they use it, sometimes not, but this error is kind of ridiculous??
Why would a customer be stopped from booking if they have a change in their name? If the email address is valid and if they put a different name, then just overwrite the information the customer give, it's their personal data.
How and when can this bug be solved? Because this is very annoying in same comes.
not a problem, you can always open your own ticket as well in case that we need to exchange credentials safely
This happens when Check for existing email option is on in Amelia > Settings > Roles > Customer.
This gives you an option, like you said, to make sure all customers always book with the same information (some use it to make sure that it's always the same person, and not someone trying to use another person's email).
You can turn it off and it will allow customers to book with the same email and different name
