In wpDataTables settings, in the Separate DB Connection tab, you need to add the host, username, password, port, database name, and connect to it.
Then, when creating a new table, you would be able to choose that separate DB connection in the drop-down menu. A prerequisite for using the separate DB feature is, of course, the installation of drivers required for databases you need:
These drivers need to be installed and activated on the server where your WordPress website is. After you install and activate those drivers, it should work fine.
