Is there a vway for logged in customers to see the names of the other
attendees for the event they booked.

I'm afraid that with the current built-in features it's possible to see only the booked spots, but not the names of other attendees.
Probably it can be achieved with the User Role Editor plugin, but I'm not sure since I didn't test it that way. But I know for sure that plenty of our customers use it for User Role permissions extension. However, I can't guarantee it's suitable in your case.
You can suggest that as a feature request here, or check if this request was already submitted and vote for it.
