On this Elementor website I have the amelia shortcode in a popup and when I trigger the popup with a button the amelia "planner" does show up. I have added the button ID as "trigger=" to the shortcode otherwise it does not work.
OK, so when Amelia's drop down menus show up and invite the user to select a service and a provider, as soon as the user does so, the pop up closes and the booking process is being terminated.
Can you please help me to change the settings of Amelia, Elementor or both so the popup stays throughout the entire booking process?

The only thing that comes to mind is "Prevent closing on overlay" in the popup settings in Elementor:
Try enabling the "Prevent Closing on Overlay" option in the popup settings:
