There is an issue with email sending on one of the websites I maintain.
Some of the clients didn't receive a confirmation email with a link to a Zoom appointment. Also, one of the clients didn't receive a follow-up email after participating in an appointment.
Email addresses have been checked and they are correct. Also, nothing in the clients' spam folder.
Can you please advise? And let me know if you have any other questions.
Issue with email notifications could be caused by several reasons:
1. Your hosting provider is blocking all 3rd party settings, and only allowing their SMTP (or other) settings.
2. Your website has PHP version less than 7
3. The credentials are not correct
4. There's something else blocking the notifications from being sent.
5. If you're using Gmail, please make sure "Allow less secure apps" is enabled.
Please check these points, and let me know if you were able to resolve the issue. If you're still not able to resolve the issue, we'll need to remote into your website, and see what's going on.
Thanks for your reply. It's only happened to a few clients out of many, so I think point number 4 would be relevant here. Could you please specify or check what could be blocking the notifications from being sent? I can provide you with the website login details, if necessary.
Just use WP Mail, if you have a different SMTP plugin.
For me, when trying to send a test email under notifications, it kept on spinning for a while and then it said 'email cannot be sent'. Same SMTP settings. I also tried using an App password (GSuite) and still did not work.
We might consider another solution due to these recurring issues. For now, my support is expired, but I fixed the issue by using WP Mail.
To be fair, it is not always Amelia's fault. From caching issues to hosting issues to Google issues or changes (if you are using Gsuite), there are plenty of other reasons why it might not work. Still, I am wondering why the SMTP plugin works and the Amelia notifications do not (same function).
Regarding the Google changes, it would still be nice to get an email about major changes 'Hey, dear users. Google decided again to make changes and complicate things, even for organizations that do not need them and might be hurt by them, so here what you do about it."
I don't have any SMTP plugins installed on the website. There's just the default WordPress PHP.
In Amelia settings, under "Notifications", the option is set to PHP Mail by default, as in the screenshot attached. If I change this to SMTP, would that suffice or do I still have to install, activate and configure the WP Mail SMPT plugin?
Is there a possibility that I sent you the login credentials and you could do it for me, please?
Apologies for that. I must have been too tired to ask for that and actually when I was reading your reply, it didn't talk to me as if it was from the support team.
Anyway, thanks for that and I'm going to wait for a reply from the Amelia team.
thank you Richard, for the kind reply, and you as well, Mike, for the kind input!
SMTP works fine with Amelia, since there's a small margin for error. Issues related to SMTP are commonly related to credentials and Google (like you implied, Mike).
If the email hasn't been used in some time, they will automatically deactivate "Allow less secure apps", so that needs to be re-enabled.
We can only log into your website, Richard, and test SMTP with our credentials (which work 100%), and after that we can tell you what's going on.
So, yes, please kindly provide me with credentials via private reply.
I have made a test, and I would like to provide the screenshots of the emails I received as a customer.
When I created the appointment, within one minute, a confirmation arrived:
Similarly, once I deleted the appointment, I received a confirmation appropriately:
Again, I can confirm that your settings, as a business provider, and notification sender are fine; please contact the customers in question who did not receive the emails to check authorizations within their own email provider, to check for any potential blocks, as you have set everything up appropriately, Richard.

Hi again,
Please disregard my request regarding the WP Mail SMPT configuration. Only please kindly answer my question.
Many thanks,
Richard
Hey Richard,
I do not work for Amelia and I do not think that it is appropriate for me to debug the issue. I just wanted to post what worked for me.
Good luck!
