I created a report template that contains of 3 tables. Each table should list parameters i created in one master wpdatatable. This master wpdatatable has 5 columns.
For my first table i would like to use column 1,3 and 4 to be listed in table 1.
In table 2 i would like to generate a table that shows columns 1 and 2 (a description for column 1).
In table 3 i would like to display column 1 and 5 (some recommendations).
Table 1 gets filled up correctly (see attachments). All the others not. It does seems that for a report i can NOT create more than 1 table ?? Is that really the case ? or do i miss something here...
If so, i would like to request this feature, since i do need this functionality for many of my reports (almost all of them).
Many professional reports contain of more than 1 table.
2nd Request:
If this is not possible it would be hlpful to use 2 different WpDataTables to be used in one report as well. Is this possible ? I did not find a way to do that either.
Many thanks in advance for letting me know how to solve the problems,
Unfortunately, what you're trying to achieve is not possible.
When you're creating a report, you choose one source table, and you cannot choose more than one source table. So, even though you have correct placeholders in the template, as you saw - the plugin is able to pull the data only from the table you selected as the data source when the template was created.
I will forward this to our development team, and hopefully they will be able to add it in one of our future updates. At the moment, it's not possible.
thanks for your quick respond and forwarding the feature request to the Dev-Team. The Plugins you offer are really helpful, so this feature would bring reporting to the next needed level.
Aleksander, you are saying that the report builder cannot take information from more than one WPDataTable - which I understand, There is only one source.
But Ivo seems to be asking about creating two "text tables" in the one Wordpress template. With all the information coming from a single WPDataTable. Why does this not work? It seems to work in the examples in the documentation.
Thanks for pointing that out, I completely missed that the source file is the same.
I've attempted to replicate the issue locally, but I have some issues with my local installation, so I forwarded the ticket to one of our developers. As soon as he responds, I will reply to this ticket.
As far as I know, and based on our developer's response - the add-on can only populate the first table in the spreadsheet file.
We're not sure where you found an example where multiple tables in the template are filled with the data from one table, so would you please be able to show me where you saw it?
Only the first one is cloned after it's found in the template file.
I mistook the shaded area at the top as being a separate table but now I see it is not.
Got it.
So report builder can only really produce one output table from one source table.
Would be great if your developers could work on this.
It currently means that to produce moderately complex reports we need to manually download multiple source tables and merge with templates outside of wordpress/plugins. And it means we have to do this manually for our customers.
Have there been any updates on this feature request?
I am encountering the same need to access multiple data sources/tables in the same report. Currently, we have 4 separate reports for each table. Our customer has requested that we can generate 1 report file including all 4 reports/tables.
If you wish to create a report from multiple tables you can combine them using SQL to create one table and then create a report from that combined table.
Also you can check our changelog for new features added in the meantime
Yes, we do that. It actually replaces the need to use the Report Builder and we get a better output.
We take one or more "merged with SQL" WPdatatables that we export to excel and link to summary spreadsheets and an MSWord template.
With the Report Builder we can only create one single page with one single table at a time.
With our method we create multiple page reports in the one document, but there are risks because the data is moved around and its also not able to be updated quickly with live data.
It would be really good to see the Report Builder updated to cope with multiple output tables over multiple pages. It would be a powerful addition to the uses of WPDatatables.
I'll forward it to our development team. They have a lot planned for the upcoming months, and I hope that new features and options of Report Builder will also be included in that.

We plan on developing the add-on further, but we've been short-staffed for a while now.
We're getting back on track, so hopefully you'll see a lot of new features and functionalities of wpDataTables and its add-ons.
