During the table creation process, you choose what kindof table to make. Eg; Link to an existing data source, import data, generate a query, etc.
I have used the "existing" data source to create a number of tables that I then linked to Excel documents on my server. However, I am now wondering if it is possible to "convert" these to the imported table type so that I can then edit the data directly in WPDataTables.
Ideally, I would like to do this without having to recreate the table (as I have 80+).
This would be useful also in the case of changing from a locally-hosted excel file to a SQL Query or other data source (Google Sheets) without needing to update the shortcode in several locations on the website.
I am sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately something like this is not possible with the plugin's built-in features.
You see, when you create a table linked to the existing source file, the plugin is simply pulling the data from the source file, but when you import that file, the plugin creates a manual table, and allows you to edit that table in that way.
There's no way to change the table type once the table is created, so unfortunately you will need to redo all those tables again.
