I'm new to Amelia. Have just installed the plugin but not sure how this would work if employees are in a different timezone.
We have employees in other countries. Will this plugin still work for them if I set the timezone in my WordPress website as Sydney Australia? The main operation is based in Sydney Australia but we anticipate having teachers in different countries.
In fact, we already have one teacher in Ireland. What timezone should we have in the general settings of the website?
The timezone applied to Amelia is the one you choose in your WordPress General Settings. All of the employees are in this timezone - the one you choose in your WP. There isn't a possibility for employees to have different timezones in the plugin, they can manually calculate the difference and set their work times accordingly.
Customers can see the available time slots in their timezones if you enable the option Show booking slots in client time zone in Amelia -> Setting s-> General.
I'm replying here as it relates to the same topic.
We are based in Sydney, Australia. For employees who are in different countries, can they still sync their google calendars to Amelia. If they do this, and list themselves as busy in their google calendar, will it be listed as busy in Amelia, despite the fact that their google calendar is in their time zone?
The Amelia timezone is the one you choose in your WP General settings. If the employees' Google calendars are in another timezone, they can connect their calendars to Amelia of course, and their events will be blocked, and in this case their Google events' times would be calculated to the timezone set in WP and those times would be blocked.
So, the time slots in Google and Amelia won't be have the same time as they are in different timezones. This applies to creating appointments from Amelia to Google, as well, if the Google calendar is in another timezone, the appointment from Amelia created there would be calculated and created in the timezone of the calendar.
Thanks for your advice: I got this message from 'Den' one of your team and the message seems to contradict what you are saying. The bottom line is that even if they are in a different time zone they can connect their google calendar to the website in our time zone (Australia) and when they are listed as busy in their google calendar, they will not be able to be booked in by our customers on Amelia. Is this correct?
There is a new comment on the support ticket in the Amelia category from Den TMS Support. Here's what they said:
Hi Paul,
Thank you for getting in touch.
This isn't possible with Amelia's current built-in features, unfortunately. We have this feature in our to-do list and it will be implemented in one of the future releases of the plugin, but that won't be any time soon I'm afraid, it isn't planned for the next couple of updates.
Yes, even if they are in different timezones you can connect their Google calendars to Amelia and their Busy events from Google will be blocked for booking in Amelia, considering the timezones difference.
What Den probably thought is that it isn't possible to have different timezones for employees in Amelia directly. Sorry for the misunderstanding and the confusion.
If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to open a new ticket and we will gladly help out
