First a little about me and my operation. I'm a one man show, a photographer. I do have a makeup artist but she is her own business and I don't manage her time.I book her as needed and requested by my clients. She's not tech savvy and does not share a calendar with me. I have to contact her for bookings.
Currently, my appointment solution is with Square Appointments. I'm looking to move because amazingly, Square doesn't support any kind of conversion tracking which makes managing my advertising difficult. Users, like myself, have requested this feature from Square as far back as 2016. As yet no movement.
So I happened across Amelia which so far is pretty neat. But, I am finding an issue that I hope others would agree would be a nice addition. I'm not sure this is the place for feature requests but here goes.
The functionality of Square Appointments (go forward I will just call SA) is that SA uses Google Calendar as the company calendar. All bookings go into that Google Calendar. It also looks to that calendar for dates and times to block off. That gives me the ability to look in one place for bookings as well as any dates/times I need to block off.
SA also allows me to pull dates/times to block off from other Google calendars. Not only do I have my company calendar I, like many others, have a personal calendar. I also have a family calendar that is shared among everyone in the family so that we can manage important dates and events.
As it stands, Amelia will only sync with one calendar. The employees calendar. Which means I have to either sync with my personal calendar or the company calendar. Either calendar I sync with means I also have to duplicate the events of the other calendar into the synced calendar. This alone causes a nightmare as the same events are on multiple calendars causing overlapping events not to mention a visual nightmare.
I'm asking for other Amelia users input as to the addition of syncing bookings to a Company Google Calendar as well as supporting the sync from multiple calendars at the same time such as the employees calendar. In my scenario, I wouldn't need it synced to the employee calendar I just need to know when the employee isn't available. So two way sync could be an option.
It's great that the Amelia team has thought about providers with teams of employees and I think they've done a great job so far but I think they've been slightly short sighted with how people use calendars and those small businesses like mine that are a one man show.
Google calendar sync works that way in Amelia, and employees can connect to only one Google calendar. So, you would need to merge your other calendars into the one that is connected to Amelia in order to block all of the Busy events' time slots from your calendars in Amelia, like you already mentioned and are aware of.
There isn't a possibility of changing this in the Google calendars sync for Amelia, unfortunately. But I will add this as a feature request to our list.
If you have any other questions or concerns feel free to open a new ticket and we will gladly help.
