Thank you for being so understanding, and we hope you enjoy the long weekend!
I see the following four options in the Mail Service menu of my Notification Settings:
PHP Mail, WP Mail, SMTP, Mailgun.
Please advise if some of these options are better than others. i.e. more reliable/secure etc.
I'm not sure if it matters but my hosting provider is SiteGround and the mailboxes for my domain are also with SiteGround.
Any advice would be appreciated!
I just tried setting up PHP Mail, as it was the first option in the list, and it worked perfectly.
That was easier than I was expecting it to be.
Hello Daniel
If PHP Mail works for you, that's great. We usually recommend SMTP, but any of these are good, depending on what you like most.
Kind Regards,

Do you think SMTP is less likely to be treated as spam by the recipient's mail system, as it uses credentials?
Hi Daniel
Yes, it is. PHP Mail has a higher chance of being treated as Spam than SMTP does.
If you're to switch to SMTP, and if you encounter any issues, they could be caused by several reasons:
1. Your hosting provider is blocking all 3rd party settings, and only allowing their SMTP (or other) settings.
2. Your website has PHP version less than 7
3. The credentials are not correct
4. There's something else blocking the notifications from being sent.
5. If you're using Gmail, please make sure you've enabled "Allow less secure apps" in your Google Account.
Kind Regards,
Aleksandar Vuković
