Seriously? More than disappointing, this little simple lack will prevent me to use the plugin although i need its advanced features… weird, even TablePress allows to merge cells.
The logic of the plugin doesn't allow it, yet. Our developers will add it in the future, I'm just not sure if that's going to be in a month or in a year. Depends on other priority tasks they have at the moment.
Well that's clear, maybe you should also pin it in the support forum, i couldn't find the info or was not completely sure of what i've found.
I also noted WPDataTable was made by tables lovers somewhere else in the blog.
Anyway, such a useful and basic function missing makes the plugin unusable to me: i can't imagine telling my client we can build powerful tables… except merging cells, sorry, install a second table plugin for basics! 😅
i just need a heading for two columns which contain minimum and maximum values.
OUTPUT INPUT Typ | min. | max. | min. | max. | price
The heading should have no function and should only be displayed above two specific columns. It is a large data table with a great deal of information about compositions. I enter the data manually, but it must be able to be sorted and filtered later.
Sorry, i'm not able to answer, didn't use the plugin since i opened this ticket (i was just testing).
I think of possible restrictions for merging cells, depending on the table type selected at step 1 of the table creation. I remember there was different types to choose from initially, not 100% sure thoiugh.
But TMS support will probably know how to guide you reliably.
As mentioned in the other ticket, and as Emmanuel mentioned, merged cells are only possible with the Simple Table type, which doesn't support filtering, sorting, or front-end editing.
Please check out our documentation about this table type and let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.
can I use CSS or JS to create a row above the heading that gives me this option? I have to find some solution to this problem.
Another solution is to add another data entry. If I could enter a number range within a cell, the problem would also be solved. The data must be sortable and filterable.
Unfortunately, there's no way you can do this. Maybe you could add a custom HTML row that would not be linked to the table in any way, but that wouldn't help you out in this case.
If it was easy as in using custom CSS or JS, we would've implemented this years ago, but unfortunately, it's not. Sorry for the inconvenience.
You can do that, or you could create another wpDataTable with the data you need, and add it above this table. I can't create the HTML table for you, unfortunately, but hopefully, the link above will come in handy.
As mentioned before - merged cells have been included since version 3.1 (released in October 2020), but only in the Simple Table type.
Since wpDataTables uses DataTables, its limitations don't yet allow us to create merged cells in other table types. Once this is made possible, our developers will work on integrating them in other table types.
Hello,
I have to merge cells vertically with WPDataTable, can't find this basic feature, can you please help?
Thanks
Emmanuel
Hello Emmanuel
Thank you for your purchase.
I am sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately something like this is not possible with the plugin's built-in features.
wpDataTables currently do not support merged cells. We plan that for the future, but when it will be included, I can't say
Kind Regards,
Aleksandar Vuković

Yeah, I completely agree with you, Emmanuel
I am looking forward to this too. It's really something that's been bugging our customers, so hopefully it will be added soon.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Aleksandar,
is the integration "merge cells" complete and now available?
I need a heading for minimum and maximum values which I want to write in the table
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
It looks like we can merge cells with the plugin now.
From the doc: https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/table-examples/wordpress-table-merge-cells/#merged-cells-example-one
There might be some restrictions such as specific table types maybe?
Emmanuel
Hi Emmanuel,
Thanks for your quick reply. I need this one: https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/table-examples/wordpress-table-merge-cells/#merged-cells-example-two
But how can i do it?
What do you mean by restrictions or table types?
i just need a heading for two columns which contain minimum and maximum values.
OUTPUT INPUT
Typ | min. | max. | min. | max. | price

Hello Aleksandar,
what you wrote is exactly what i need.
"Maybe you could add a custom HTML row that would not be linked to the table in any way, but that wouldn't help you out in this case."
That would be it! The text just needs to be displayed - no links, nothing. It should look like this:
| Heading for data1 | Heading for data2 | Heading for data3 | (only text - no links)
| Minimal | Maximal | Minimal | Maximal | Minimal | Maximal | (links and sort-funktion)
Can you help me with that?
Thomas
Hey Thomas.
Well, adding a table with HTML is pretty straight forward: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp
You can do that, or you could create another wpDataTable with the data you need, and add it above this table. I can't create the HTML table for you, unfortunately, but hopefully, the link above will come in handy.
Kind Regards,
Aleksandar Vuković
