Or, you can create tables by importing those files, in which case the plugin will use the data from the file to create a table, and that table will be editable, and save as a manual table which will no longer be connected to the original file. Meaning, if you edit one the other won't be updated.
(a) What I am looking for is the ability to upload an excel sheet or CSV of name and ID, and that these name and ID could be identified and filtered in the already created tables of the wpDataTables or tables linked to the CSV/Excel file. In other words, i could extract the corresponding details to these name and ID by a form of uploading an excel sheet or CSV instead of manually keying in details/filtering it. But, if there is an alternative way that I could filter the list easily, example, copy and paste the name or ID to a text box, i think that works well too.
(b) After the above, we still retain the ability of sorting and filtering.
If you upload an Excel or a CSV file, and use it as a linked file the table will automatically be updated after the file is updated in ../wp-content/uploads. You wouldn't be able to update the table by re-uploading the source file.
So, when you update the source, the table will be updated - no need to manually enter anything in the table. That is - you wouldn't be able to anyway, since linked tables aren't editable.
Many thanks Aleksandar. Sounds like it does not have a function that I am looking for. But, i would like to confirm again. In other words, if I have uploaded "Spreadsheet A" to create a table, will I be able to upload "Spreadsheet B" that does a vlookup or filter like function, extracting details from "Spreadsheet A" itself?
Could I import a list of name and ID details with Excel or CSV to filter the list?
Hello Lucas
Thank you for your interest in wpDataTables.
Sure, you can either create tables linked to a CSV or linked to an Excel file, in which case the tables can not be editable.
Or, you can create tables by importing those files, in which case the plugin will use the data from the file to create a table, and that table will be editable, and save as a manual table which will no longer be connected to the original file. Meaning, if you edit one the other won't be updated.

Hi Aleksandar, many thanks for the reply.
Would like to confirm on the approach again.

Filters can be used on all our tables, sure.

Sorry to disappoint you, Lucas, but unfortunately no.
Formulas in wpDataTables can only work for the table they are in.
You can take a look at our Foreign Key feature, but I don't believe this is what you're looking for.
