I'm using one column as a group item and noticed in an export that the group column is missing from the output. Is there any way to ensure that the column designated as a group item is not excluded when the user exports via CSV or PDF?
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but like our documentation mentions, something like that is not possible:
Other front-end extensions cannot be combined with Table Tools. If you have row grouping enabled for the table, or there are some customizations you did yourself, they won’t be reflected in the generated Excel, CSV or PDF document, nor in the clipboard.
This is the downside of the 3rd party HTML5 library we're using, and there are no workarounds at the moment.

Thank you very much!
