I have created a text filter for a column but I cannot enter any data into it. Filtering is turned on the column and if I use another type of filter, there is no problem. It's just the text filter that's not working. Any ideas?
I'm sorry, but I can't say much without taking a look.
Please provide me a temporary WP-admin login for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue. We do not interfere with any data or anything else except for the plugin (in case that’s a production version of the site), and of course we do not provide login data to third party. You can write credentials here just check Private Reply so nobody can see them except us.
Thanks for replying, Aleksandar. Unfortunately, I can't do what you asked as the system is currently on a local machine only and not accessible to the outside world. However, I can give you more details as to what is happening.
The problem only occurs if I open the table from within the admin dashboard using the standard wpDataTables interface. I have inserted the table using a Gutenberg block into a page. If the page is then displayed, the filter works correctly.
Is it possible that this is the way that the system is supposed to work?
If it would help, I could provide you with some screenshots.
wpDataTables is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) concept based plugin. This means that the table should look the same both in back-end and in front-end. If your front-end table looks and behaves differently than in back-end, this usually implies that there is another plugin (or the current theme) that's changing the behavior of our plugin.
If you had an issue with select-box or multi-select-box filters, then I would've assumed there's a conflict with the bootstrap files (with some other plugin), but I don't recall having a text filter not working normally.
Please do provide some screenshots, or even better - screen recordings, so I can see what's going on.
I just tried out the other three tables and they all have the same fault. Here's a screen grab which shows all the filter settings and the filter block itself. As before, I can't enter anything into the block.
Yeah, that is very strange. I cannot replicate the issue on my end.
Can you please consider duplicating your website, like explained in my previous response? That way I'll get the exact copy of your site, and see what the issue is, and how we can resolve it.
I'm completely fine with that. We're not interested in the data, as long as the website's structure is the same, so we can see what's causing the issue.
I have created a duplicate of the site. How can I send it to you; the compressed size is 70Mb (mostly plugins - including, of course, wpDataTables).
By the way, I have discovered that the fault only occurs if the filters are above the table; if they are below the table, everything is fine. I am also still getting this error:
Notice: Undefined index: undefined in C:\xampp\htdocs\wp-mgf\wp-content\plugins\wpdatatables\source\class.wpdatacolumn.php on line 602
That's probably the issue there - there's a conflict between wpDataTables and Social Media plugin.
If you don't need that plugin, and you can confirm everything's up and running, we can leave it at that. If not, please upload the duplicator files to wetransfer.com and send me the URL in a PRIVATE response.
Thanks for trying. I'm afraid that the problem still persists at my end. Front end pages are fine but I still have the problem on the back-end whether I use the local copy on my laptop or the server version to which you have access. I have also have the problem on the server if I access it from another computer. I have just noted that the number filter has the same problem as well.
I am at a total loss as to what is going on. The server site was copied from my laptop using the WordPress importer plugin so it's possible that any corruption on my laptop was transferred to the server. However, that does not explain why you are able to use the server version without problems. The only thing that I can think of doing now is to reinstall wpDataTables on my laptop (which has the full licence) and see what happens. Can I do that and still keep all the existing data tables?
Well, that wouldn't do anything. Since I'm able to enter text into Filters remotely, I can only assume there's something on your computer that's wrong, but then you say you tried from another computer, so I am baffled.
Are those computers on the same network? Have you tried Incognito mode?
I can't think of anything that would cause this issue. Can you try using VPN?
That's really strange, and an issue I haven't experienced until now.
Unfortunately none of us have Windows based computers at home. We're all either on Linux or Mac. We do have Windows computer in our office, but due to COVID-19 we're all working from home until 17h, with a curfew starting at 17h. It is also effective from Friday, 17h until Monday 5AM (lock down during the whole weekend), so there's no way anyone can go get a Windows based PC to test this.
Please keep an eye out on this. Firefox releases updates all the time, so the fix may be just around the corner.
By the way, I'd just like to say wpDataTables has been a real life-saver for me. Some of our plant lists have hundreds of entries. For our current site, we keep the data in Excel spreadsheets and use VBA to generate the HTML for the site. That's not really an option for a WordPress site but keeping the basic data in some form of spreadsheet which can form the the basis of a nicely formatted page is the only way that these lists can be managed. wpDataTables does the job perfectly.
If you have any further questions or issues, please feel free to open a new ticket, and we'll gladly help.
Also, if this thing keeps happening in a few months, please feel free to reference this ticket and let us know, so we can inspect it when we get back to the office.

Aleksandar,
I am prepared to do this but there is some information in it which I cannot share with third parties. I suggest I proceed as follows:
1) make a duplicate of the full site
2) remove the sensitive material (this would only be content not the structure of the site)
3) duplicate the reduced site and send it to you
4) restore the original site
I would, of course, make sure that the error was still present on the reduced site before sending it to you
Ian

Alexandar,
Further to my earlier reply, if I delete the Social Media plugin, the undefined index error goes away.
