After 2 years wpdt has begun to crash the site. Upon trying to update the plugin I find that the price of the update is $259. That is over 4x's what the plugin cost!
Unless I am missing something how can the update be 4x's the cost of the original plugin?
performanceexcellence.org uses wpdt extensively and we are kind of stuck with this plugin as we have a lot of table displaying. Can you help me understand this extreme price 400%+ price hike.
another question. Is the $259 for support or actual actual update. I got email saying an update was available but in Envato Market it indicates that it is a support renewal. Can you please clarify.
Thank you for your reply and explanation. It was frustrating trying to figure out what was what. I get, but i would think the volume of the one stop shop would offset that. However when shop as yourself starts getting recognition it makes sense to spin off an alternative.
On the other hand I am not clear on what i need to do to get wpdt to stop crashing my site. What i understand is that wpdt should be totally up to date working smoothly, but you are suggesting reinstalling?
And any further help then i need to sign up for a resonable $59/year support subscription?
Well, since you're having issues with the plugin running normally on your website, we can help you with that. However, any further help that would go into the plugin's functions or bugs would require you to upgrade the support, like you mentioned. In my opinion, the best option would be lifetime license for $189, if you're planning on using the plugin for more than the next 3 years, of course. If not, then the best option is $59/year. But, like I mentioned - if you wish to switch to our licenses, I can reach out to our management and have them provide a discount for you.
What version of the plugin do you have?
We can't confirm with 100% certainty that the update will fix everything, but it's the first step. If the auto-update doesn't work, my advice would be to update the plugin manually by following these steps:
IMPORTANT: Do NOT delete the old version from WP-admin (by clicking “Delete” in the plugins page) if you don’t want to lose all your tables!
2. Use FTP to open /your_wordpress_folder/wp-content/plugins
3. Delete existing wpDataTables folder.
4. Upload previously downloaded wpDataTables folder through FTP to plugins folder (unzip it)
5. Go to WP-admin panel, open Plugins section.
6. Deactivate wpDataTables, and then activate it again.
7. Clear server and browser cache
IMPORTANT: Do NOT delete the old version from WP-admin (by clicking “Delete” in the plugins page) if you don’t want to lose all your tables!
If this still doesn't help with the issues, then I'll ask you to explain what is going on in detail, and please provide me a temporary WP-admin login for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue. We do not interfere with any data or anything else except for the plugin (in case that’s a production version of the site), and of course we do not provide login data to third party. You can write credentials here just check Private Reply so nobody can see them except us.
Envato emailed about new update but link took me to the same place your's did.
I downloaded new copy and upload new wpdt plugin via wp-admin. I now have 2 copies of the plugin. However you clearly said don't delete old wpdt plugin. Not clear how to transition new plugin.
You couldn't have installed the two versions of the plugin unless you named the folder differently?
Either way, you should access ../wp-content/plugins/ via FTP manager (FileZilla or Total Commander), delete the old plugin version and replace that folder with the new one.
If you're not sure about this, please provide me FTP credentials, and website's WP-Admin credentials, so I can remote in and take a look, and ultimately fix this for you.
Please just enable the Private response, so no one else sees the credentials except for us.
So delete old plugin folder for new plugin fold and I won't lose my existing tables? Does that mean all data is house on the wp site db not being stored in any wpdt folder.
Sorry for being so nervous over this, have many tables.
Better to be safe than sorry, so it's quite understandable.
Since you probably have two folders, you have to be sure the one you're replacing is the correct one. If you replace the folder of the plugin which is not the one currently active on your website, you may lose the data.
I believe the two versions are different, so you need to open both folders via FTP and open wpdatatables.php file. In the beginning of that file, you will see the version of the plugin installed in that folder:
In the Plugins section of your dashboard, you will see the version currently active, and below that the version of the plugin:
Basically, you need to delete both folders via FTP. BUT, you have to make sure the name of the one that is currently active is the name of the new version of the plugin. If you only had one version of the plugin installed, that wouldn't be a problem since you would delete "wpdatatables" and extract "wpdatatables" folder. Now, you probably have "wpdatatables" and "wpdatatables(1)", so you need to keep one of these folder names in order to keep the settings, tables, etc. It might be a good idea to backup your whole database, just in case something goes wrong.
