I am sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately something like this is not possible with the plugin's built-in features.
When you use Foreign Keys to connect remote table's columns, the editor input type is limited to single-value selectbox, since the options are limited with respect to what the remote table contains.
You can select different filter types for that column, but editor input type cannot be changed.

I would like to create a multi select checkbox filed taking its values from another table.
Trying to define Data coming from another table leaves only possible Edit values of type Single Select.
Please advice what to do !
