Our institution is looking for a WordPress plugin that would help our content owners create ACCESSIBLE charts, should they need it for their site. Accessibility is very important to our institution as we move into the WordPress environment from SharePoint. Please advise if your plugin creates accessible charts.
Thank you!
Susan Craigo
Hello Susan.
Thank you for your interest in our plugin.
Can you, please, tell me what you mean by "accessible" charts?
When you have existing wpDataTables on your website, you're able to create charts from them. The charts reflect the content of wpDataTables.
Best regards.
Kind Regards,
Aleksandar Vuković

Thank you for your reply. I am inquiring to see wpDataTables charts are accessible to people with disabilities, especially those with screen readers and using keyboards instead of a mouse.

I see, Susan.
I believe you should be able to manage this with wpDataTables, and wpDataCharts included.
For example, Highcharts offer color changing when creating a chart:
Also, there are tooltips which show cell values when hovering over the bars:
If you require some additional features, not offered with built-in options, you can add them using wpDataCharts callbacks. Unfortunately, they require some coding skills, which is not included in the support provided for the plugin, but we can always point you to the right direction.
If you purchase the plugin, you have a 15-day money back guarantee, which means you can try out the plugin, and if it doesn't suit your needs, you can ask and receive a refund within 15 days from purchase.
Best regards.

Hello Susan,
Did you find any options of creating accessible tables or chart using this plugin. I am also looking to implement those in my organization where many users are visually impaired.
Sagar
@Sagar Prasai, We did not purchase this plugin, so I can't really answer your question.
Oh dear. It looks like TMS Plugins doesn't even know what we mean by accessible charts.
Changing a color scheme does not help blind people. The charts need a screen-reader-accessible fallback. I think the simplest thing to do would be render the chart's data in a table inside the <canvas> element.
Please don't reply saying something like that could be custom-programmed with callbacks. That's not a good answer to shift the responsibility of accessibility on the users when it's a developer's responsibility.
Hi again Daniel
I'm sorry, but like I mentioned in your private ticket - wpDataTables is not compatible with screen readers and is not a good solution for blind or visually impaired people.
Also, like mentioned there:
It has been brought to the development team's attention, and they will be working on it for one of our future updates. Until then, you would have to manually adjust the code of the plugin to add or remove labels. Us doing this would be considered a customization of the plugin.
Unfortunately, at the moment - it does need to be custom-implemented, and even though that's not a good answer, it's a truthful one, as we're not shifting responsibility but simply implying that the plugin is not compatible yet, and to make it compatible you need to customize it, or wait for our development team to do this. Our development team has other priority tasks at the moment, and even though it is on our roadmap, I can't say when it will be compatible.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Kind Regards,
Aleksandar Vuković
