Hi guys, can Amelia be used for taxi/bus booking? In particular could users enter in a start and end destination and then a price could be shown to the user who can then pay?
Does Amelia:
1. Take payments and send invoices?
2. Take bookings online and manage them on a mobile?
3. Will the users get an email and/or text confirming booking including pick up point, time, destination and pricing?
4. Record all invoices and payments and easily sync with your accounting systems
Sorry for all the questions guys but I am trying to see if Amelia will work with my Bus Hire customer.
I am sorry to disappoint you, but unfortunately something like this is not possible with the plugin's built-in features.
The plugin doesn't have options to calculate the price based on location/location distance. Maybe there's another way, though.
If you have fixed routes, like from New York to Washington, you can add a couple of employees:
"New York" and "Washington", and also add a couple of services "New York" and "Washington", so when users log into your website, they would choose the employee (modified label so it says "Starting location") and the service (modified label so it says "Destination"), and it would display the price from New York to Washington.
Every new destination would be a different service, and under Employee's (starting location) "Assigned Services" you can add different price for every service (destination), so it looks like this:
Employee "Washington" would be assigned to services "New York" and "Richmond". I believe you get where I'm going with this.
That can be a workaround for what you're trying to achieve.
As for payments and invoices:
You can take a look at our available payment options in our documentation, although invoices and tax are only available through payments via WooCommerce.
2. Amelia works in WordPress dashboard, and you can definitely log into your account via mobile device, and manage bookings through it.
3. We have customizable e-mail and SMS notifications, so you could add all that info there. I don't believe you would be able to set up Amelia so it has a dynamic pick-up point, but you can add a custom field where users would type in the address where they would like to be picked up. Then, you could include that custom field via %custom_field_1% placeholder in the e-mail or SMS notification.
4. You'd have all invoices under WooCommerce, and payments can be seen in Amelia's dashboard.
Aleksandar, now that is what I call support! Great info, thankyou.
I have managed to change the employee tab to STARTING LOCATION (although it still says employee in the backend) but when attempting to add (for instance) WASHINGTON as an emplyee (starting location) in the first name tab it will not accept this unless I add email, last name and location.
Yeah, that's an inconvenience in cases like yours. Unfortunately, last name and e-mail are mandatory fields.
e-mail doesn't show up in the front-end, so you can enter a dummy e-mail, or even your own e-mail, but when it comes to last name, my suggestion would be to add a short description, for example "Line", so it says "Washington Line" or "Bus", or something like that.
I've checked with my developer, and unfortunately at the moment there's no way of removing the last name as a mandatory field.
Hello! Sorry to interrupt but this support answer was GREAT!
What a nice alternative to use the Employees and Services! Very creative!
I have a question though... For example for "NY" to "WASHINGTON" the duration would be for example 6hours while from "TEXAS" to "WASHINGTON" it would be a different time duration, like 10 hours... How can we handle that?
The employee (Starting Point) dont have the ability to change the service (Destination) duration.
There's no way to calculate the distance (duration) of a ride between two cities, but you can now access the Customize section -> Step-by-Step Booking Form 2.0 and access the "Date & Time" step. Under "Options", you'll have the ability to hide the end time:
So, it will only show the start time. I suppose customers know approximately how long it takes for a ride from Houston to Washington.

I know it's old but I always look for a similar problem before I post a new one!
I was not aware that I can hide the end time! Thank you very much!
That's a great approach, George, don't get me wrong. It just took me a while to scroll back through the ticket and see what it was about.
Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
