I thought I'd try to use Amelia for a small chamber of commerce type organization that doesn't necessarily need traditional booking options, but they do have events. I went through the tutorial, but haven't been able to find an answer to this: Is there a way to customize the information we need from people before they can register for an event?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but Custom Fields are only available for Amelia appointments, not Events. We are working on implementing that as well, but it is currently under development.
It will be added in one of our future versions of the plugin.
