That solution would only work if everyone doing data entry was a coder.
Phone numbers are as common in databases as email addresses and URL's. It would seem reasonable to add the code you mention below as one of the format options in the program.
I also tried to add the code below as a Prefix and Suffix but that doesn't work.
I am sorry but this is the only way you can add a phone field from within the plugin.
Using prefix and suffix don't work like that, unfortunately. The plugin can't read it and it only displays the result without it being rendered as a link or a phone number.
Since you're mentioning databases, you can try adding a CONCAT function in the database table which would automatically apply the prefix and the suffix, so the person entering the data needs to only insert the phone number, and the CONCAT function would do the rest. Something similar to a dynamic URL fields, where (for example) you need to navigate to a specific user profile.
Please note: Using this plugin feature requires at least a basic knowledge of SQL. It is assumed that you can create the table in some MySQL data manager (e.g., PHPMyAdmin, MySQL Workbench), and prepare an SQL query that will return the data you need. Please be advised that preparing MySQL queries for you is not included in the plugin support, but it can be done as a paid customization service.
Is there a way to format a phone number field so that it can be clicked to make calls on a phone or tablet?
I've seen this done with some CRM plugins
Hello wiredlisa.
Thank you for your purchase.
You can add a simple "String" type column, and use it for that purpose.
Most modern devices support the tel: scheme. So use:
and you should be good to go.
I hope this helps.
Best regards.
