Is it possible to store the translation files outside the plugin so that they are not overwritten (again) during the next update? Or do I have to have a process in place to store the files elsewhere and to store them again after the update?
When you update the .po file and translate the plugin, you can copy that file to another folder on your PC, so when the plugin updates, you can just copy over the .po file.
Basically, whatever file you change, you can store it in another location to avoid making the same changes over and over again. The only other advice I can give is - before pasting over the newly updated file, just compare them at DiffChecker, and if the changes you made are the only ones there - it is safe to copy over the file. If there are some additional lines of code, then you'd have to watch out and replace the lines already existing from the previous file.

Hello KienbaumIT.

Basically, whatever file you change, you can store it in another location to avoid making the same changes over and over again. Best regards.
